First, to the best of my knowledge, Carbon dating isn't what's used to date things that far back. Carbon dating is only used to 100.000 years or so.

To date things much earlier than that, I believe (I'm not an expert), Geological methods are typically used.

Carbon dating is not an exact science - only an interpretation. the same artifacts were sent to 5 different labs around the world for dating - the results did not sgree and were so wide ranging! How much carbon is in the atmosphere today? How much was there 1 million years ago? If you say the same then prove it, but you can't as you have no evidence. Rock taken from the new island that formed in the 1960's near Iceland may be taken and carbon dated. How many millions of years old will it be when it was formed in the 1960's? Don't believe everything that science makes a claim about. Check things for yourself.

Carbon dating cannot test that far back in time. There are other radioactive isotopes that can, however. Some religions say 6,000 years because of a literal interpretation of their texts. This is hardly debatable because of the complete lack of evidence to support a 'young' Earth.

Edit: joe K is so full of it. Research it yourself. Don't take this idiot's word for it.

Because carbon and radiactive dating in general is a very well-understood natural process, with very predictable results. Look into it a bit. Religion is wrong, of course.

Religions are generally about spiritual truth, not imperical truth.

Would you prefer to someone who "believed" your kidney needs to be removed becuase an old saying says so, or because multiple time-tested methods proven to be reliable all point toward the same conclusion?

Some people say 6000 years ago because they are using written record by man on stone, papyrus, etc. They probably are not considering that our species has evolved from earlier species very similar to us: homo erectus, homo floresiensis, and possibly the neanderthal.

Carbon testing is not 100% reliable.

Perhaps one day it will be...but for now, there are kinks to be worked out.

I believe in God, but I still believe that the world is about 6 Billion years, it doesn't contradict with anything in my beliefs, besides it's confirmed by science.

Because holy people want to have holy thoughts, and how can you have holy thoughts if you're thinking about stuff like that? Science just ain't holy, okay?
