This particular crash had nothing to do with a language barrier. As I understand it, the American pilots departed their airport in an Embraer Legacy jet with no clearance and no radio contact. As they climbed out (illegally) they contacted the 737 behind the passenger compartment, seperating its tail from the rest of the fuselage.

It was basically a case of bravado over brains. The pilots figured that because they were over the jungle in Brazil that nothing could possibly be there and nobody could see them. They were wrong and 137 people died because of it.

There was actually a digital camera recovered where two pictures of the inside of the cabin were taken. One clearly shows the back ov the aircraft with the tail section falling away. the opther shows a gaping hole in the back of the aircraft where the tail used to be and a man being sucked out. These pics were emailed to me by a friend. Very creepy.

And BlankB is mistaken. We didn't invent aviation. The reason English is the main language of aviation is because it was the only language spoken by two of the nations (US and UK) at the original ICAO convention in Warsaw in 1947. It is also the most commonly spoken language around the world, making it a fairly obvious choice. At that time the British Empire controlled a large percentage of the world, and many of its subjects spoke English. English was adopted basically because of the UK, not because of the US.

Whats funny is this is case in point right here. You obviously aren't very good with english. Since The United States is responsible for viaiton, we have set all of the standards as they pertain to flying. In order to be a pilot ANYWHERE in the world, you are required to be able to speak, read, and write english. English is the language used in all radio communications. In places like Brazil, things get lost in translation, or rather I should say lost in accents. It may be hard to sometimes understand Air Traffic Control. Unfortunately, pilots are too stupid to verify things and just make assumptions, causing accidents. Pilot error is the largest cause of aviation accidents.
