personally, i think all yobs should get a public spanking, but that story was so bad, they need to go to jail and get b******* in the showers

That report was very disturbing.
If it was up to me, I would do the same to the yobs who did this. No jail sentence is long or hard enough for people like this.
I was a bit miffed at the bit where the RSPCA man said that the last time an animal was deliberately and maliciously killed was Oct 2005. I read about animals being tortured and abused at least once a week in the paper and this is just the ones that you hear about.
This type of thing is happening regularly and needs to be stamped out.

I totally agree with you about yobs being a cancer on society but i think jail , as an only punishment , is far too good for them . In my opinion they should be CASTRATED WITHOUT ANAESTHETIC .This is something i feel very strongly about . I think the laws should be changed to deal with these PRATS and ensure that they pay the price for inflicting all the agony on these poor defenceless animals . There should also be a register , such as the one they have for Paedophiles , to make people aware just how sick and demented they are , then perhaps they would think twice before committing these atrocities . Being an animal lover , my heart bleeds every time i hear or see something like this happening . I , literally , cry for the poor things .

Hallo there

I have a similar question up at the moment - and am not too far away from you, as I live in Huddersfield. We have had some unbelievably horrific atrocities towards cats reported in our local press recently, it has made me almost afraid to look at the newspaper. BUT - these things must be confronted - and there HAS to be a way to deal with these sick b******s.

I recently reported a Yahoo answerer in the UK who claims he catches and gasses cats that go onto his property. I reported him both to Yahoo and to the RSPCA, in the hope that he may be traceable via his ISP. Haven't heard anything up to press and that was over a week ago but I haven't given up hope. (Having said that, I now have a sneaking feeling I may have been "had", as looking at his other questions - which are decidedly odd - I think he may just be a wind-up merchant. Nevertheless, he still shouldn't be saying what he has been saying, even if he is not actually doing these things he may be giving the sickos ideas.)

My gut reaction, when I read stories about animal cruelty (I haven't actually looked at yours yet but am plucking up the courage to) is impotent rage. Literally seeing red, because my blood pressure goes through the roof!

I have to say that I particularly like Cate's, Jon B's, Mairtin's, diquarry's and MIMI1's answers!!! You and they are people after my own heart.

A register of offenders is a brilliant idea, it would be one way of emphasising that no, they CANNOT get away with it. Banning fireworks and airguns is another idea I really like (organised firework displays are fine but just don't let the tiny minded yobbos get their filthy hands on them!)

I also think Bluebell has an absolutely excellent point and in an ideal world there would be this kind of re-habilitation; even if it worked only in a fraction of cases it would be money so well spent. But the cold-hearted authorities, who care only about money, would never stump up for it.

I think the best we can do, as animal lovers, is to be vigilant at all times. If we see anything wrong, we shouldn't be afraid to say something/step in and intervene/report to the RSPCA/police - whichever is most appropriate. We absolutely must not bury our heads in the sand and hope someone else will do something - because they won't.

Thank you for a thought-provoking question.

If anyone did anything like that to one of my pets I'd castrate the buggers (and I'm a peace-lover). Trouble is, the yobs don't care if they get caught as all they get is the equivalent of a mild ticking off. I had a good laugh recently while watching the local Welsh news. This a***hole danced his way into court after burning down a school. He really performed for the cameras, laughing and cavorting like he thought he was going to get a small fine. Apparently he cried in the dock after being sentenced to 6 years! Now let's see judges do the same to animal torturers, murdering drink drivers and filthy paedophiles.

I'm sorry that you had to come across such an awful article. I started to cry when I read this =( ...I say hang them and cut parts of their body off very slowly with a dull knife and watch them bleed; then burn their body with gasoline just enough to make them scream and then continue to cut their bodies up very slowly...Ya that just about covers it; this is what I would do if I caught someone doing this to any animal.....I watch the animal planet all the time and it is so sad when the animal police respond to acts of animal cruelty and what the animal has to go through to be on the way to recovery..But most of the time they are placed in another safe home.. I say if you are going to let your animals outside(cats especially) Please have them micro chipped this will help if your pet gets lost or stolen and if someone finds your pet;maybe someone will be able to scan the animal to find you.. Also don't forget that there is feline aids and Leukemia that effects cats and there is no cure for these two disease plus all the other scary things that are out there for animals to endure..Please keep your pets safe and-Thank God for the S.P.C.A..

Could not look at the link as like steve h i love animals too much and get very upset when i hear cruelty to any animals. I think they should have the same cruel treatment that they inflict on a defenceless animal. If ever i saw anybody doing cruel things i no matter how much danger i would be in or consequene i would batter the little bastards.

I like animals but don't have any cos I work full time and don't like the mess of hairs etc, but I started reading the article you directed us to and I'm sorry, I felt physically sick half way through, and could not read it all!! The sick people who could do such things to a helpless animal should be shot in my opinion. There's no need for it and being on drugs or being drunk doesn't excuse this kind of violation to a defenceless animal. It's quite disturbing and I would like to think the yobs are severely dealt with if they are caught. xx

I can't begin to imagine what goes through the mind of an animal when it's being tortured. It knows it's in pain and all it wants to do it get away but it's trapped. They have no idea what is happening or what will come, must be so terrifying for them.

Just let me in a room with someone who is cruel to animals. I can guarantee they would never be able to hurt another animal again after I had finished with them.

What gets me people like you want to jail these yobs for years and years for animal cruelty yet the older generation in this country are getting assaulted and there attackers get a slap on the wrist. its the same with putting an animal down cause its sick but will we do the same for terminally ill people who want to die NO i think are heads are on back to front were animals are involved

They should be nailed to a wall in a public place, while wearing a t-shirt that says "I think I'm a big man". Then, when it has been judged that they have had enough, a raffle is held, and the winner gets to be left alone in a room with them for 10 minutes with a baseball bat.

The offenders would then be taken away in a bucket and flushed down the nearest toilet.
