In Noahs time, there were only a certain amount of animals living. that is why only a certain amount were living then to fit on the ark!

In geneisis, when the world was created. The land was one mass and the rest were the seas. So he could of just walked over and picked one (or two) up. After the flood, water seperated the continents.
