Do you believe fate is a solid, predermined force, a path we can't escape? Do you believe fate is a force thats always there, but it changes with every choice we make? Or do you not believe in fate at all?

Let me put it this way. Do you believe you make the choices you make are predermined by a spiritual force? Do you believe that even though there is a fate out there, the outcome of your fate changes everytime you make a new choice? Do you believe that there is no such thing as a fate, and that humans just fall victim to free-will?

I do not think there is such a thing as fate. I think our lives are based on the choices we make and the consequences of those choices.

No. I don't believe in fate. Personally, to me--fate is very much like "faith." It comforts some people to believe they've found an answer to a question that has no "reason" to be asked. If "...there is fate out there.." how could one change it when making choices? Fate would be carved in stone. It's not. I'd say that I have a "basic" sort of nature, I can't change the colour of my eyes & so on, but that has nothing to do with fate--just my genes, my DNA whatever. I truly don't understand your last sentence--it seems contradictory. If one doesn't believe in fate they just fall "victim to free-will?" We aren't "victims" of our choices. Your question is thought provoking, yet leaves me feeling a little confused re exactly what you're getting at? (I think I know.)

Edit: Last evening, Messenger was doing "maintenance" for six hours & froze my whole system. Now my avatar doesn't show, & someone here doesn't have a nickname. My avatar (if you're interested) is the symbol of Capricorn, & my nickname is DRAGON.

Edit: Fixed it! Choice or fate? I must disagree that the paths we choose "lead us to fate." If "fate" is valid, fate would LEAD us to the path. If I hadn't gotten on that elevator, I wouldn't have gotten that job, I wouldn't have met that person, I wouldn't.....There is a sequence/consequence to all actions & inactions., philosophically, this is like asking "Who would I be if I weren't me?" We aren't in control of ALL things, & the majorty of life is serendipity & happenstance. One of the reasons I love it so much!

I believe fate changes as the choice changes. Look at the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies, for instance. Remember those little paperback books that came out in the 1980's that let you make choices for the character and with each choice, it said to go to page such and such, a different path leading to a certain fate. Now maybe more than one path could lead to the same fate, I don't know. I also don't know the answer to your question. This is the way I tend to think, in freewill with a fated consequence, if that makes any sense. You choose the path you take and whatever fate it leads you to. Tell me, what do you think? Because I have thought about this as well. We are definitely looked over, not over looked by a Higher Being(s) who may gently guide us in a certain direction by divine intervention....something that may affect a choice you are making. You know what. I do not claim to understand fate and how it works. I can, however, trace my steps back to 1988 to my meeting a certain friend----to how I got here to where I am sitting today. And that's as far back as I've traced, to me going to that Art Winterfair and sitting on the bus next to that girl, causing a chain of friends and events from thereafter. I've never thought about the chain of events that LED UP to that point, but I would guess they began at birth. God presenting me with choices/decisions, but giving me the free will to do as I would.

Good Luck in your searching. And never stop searching. You've certainly got me thinking about it now. The problem is that there are so many answers out there for us, we just have to CHOOSE...or not choose which one to put our faith in. But I like my idea, it works for me.

(God, tell me I didn't completely botch this one up.hahaha)

Fate, for me, is just another term for the future. Whatever happens, happens.

As for the spiritual force part, helllllllll naw.

But for others, almost everyone, fate is like a small branch of religion. And religion is just somethign for people to beleive in. It gives them answers, and any answer to an unsolved problem is very likely to make people happy, hence the basis or religion. Because everyone knows how irritating not finding a solution may be, and when ANY answer comes along, it satisfies them, without questions.

I think that certain things are predetermined. Certain events in everyones life are predetermined, and the ending result of it all is predetermined. Yet the rest is choices. Whatever choices we make all have the same ending result, if not the same short-term result. Like, I think, Love is predetermined. If you are meant to be with someone, thats the way it is and theres no changing that. Yet the choices we make to get there all end with the same result. i hope that makes sense

blessed be

I believe that a cross between the laws and physics, and each persons personality as a whole combine in a unique way, that results in a single path that will be taken out of an infinite number of possible paths.

I like to think I'm in control of my destiny.

Mainly because, aside from anything else, it makes it easier to deal with the fact that the world seems to be heading in a horrible direction. If the fate of this world is to destroy itself then fate is truly cruel and if I could if' fight against it as hard as I could.

No so much as fate buy choice. We do have purposes for our lives that were predetermined, yes, but it is up to us if we follow those paths. What we were put here to do has been predetermined. We have free will whether we do it or not. May God Bless

I don't believe in fate...good or bad. I don't believe that there is some kind of plan for us all..I believe our lives and the way the road is taken depends on our choices and thats it. Life can either suck or not..it's your choice.

God has a life planned out for each and every one of us. But we have the choice to make our own decisions as to whether we follow a path directed by God or we forge a path on our. You can bet though if you go off on your own, you may still receive some blessings because God's Spirit dwells upon every person whether they believe in him or not. But not having God fully in your life and not having the Holy Spirit on the inside, will cause you to have a harder life. Many people may look at those millionaires who have so much and think that they made it without God, but think about how truly unhappy some of these people are. The jump in and out of relationships, marriages, rehab for drugs and alcohol. They are living out the fate that chose for themselves and not the one that God has for us. Don't get me wrong, God does allow for us to go through tests and trials, but when we go through them with His help, we come out on top and don't have to take the same tests over and over. So remember, God has a plan for each of our lives, we have the choice to follow it or not.
