My doctor told me that 2 pounds a week is healthy. Not to try to push past that because it would be unhealthy. But I have had periods of losing weight were I lost a pound a day and have had other periods of only losing 1 pound a week.It depends on the amount of calories you intake and expend. But it also depends on what you eat also.In taking 1,000 calories a day of fresh fruits and veggies will get you a lot further than if you are the type who stick to 1.000 calories a day but 999 came from sugar and fat.It also depends on you body and how well it processes its fuel.I am also trying to lose weight before next April for my 15Th wedding anniversary.I am taking the fresh fruit and veggie approach myself took the diet pill and starvation approach last time and ended up having a stroke at 32 years old.Best of luck to you.Hope you succeed.

At your current weight, riding your bike at an average speed for 30 minutes will burn about 350 calories.
This means you can lose 1 pound every 10 days for awhile, although as you lose or get more fit, you'll be burn less calories each session.
Your best bet is to combine the cycling with a diet you like, or even just cutting out junk food, snacks, fast food and soda.
Congrats on picking up an activity!

I posted this somewhere for a similar situation. You can run all day or in your case, bike all day. You may not lose weight.
It serisouly all depends on the amount of calories you take in and how you lose during the day. As long as the calories you lose are more than the amount you take in, you will be guarenteed to lose weight. It truly is as simple as that. No special diet, starving yourself, etc...
So try to eat a little less than moderately and start doing some activities.
There are many programs that can help you track the amount of calories you lose/eat per day to help you.
CALORIES OUT > CALORIES IN = SUCCESS

Walk, walk, walk. It's proven this is more effective than riding a bike. Stretch for 10-minutes before exercise of any sort. This will reduce physical aches. Aches tend to to provide less incentive to continue. Also, fiber to drain the body of carbs and tons of fruit. I like eating grapes as they take a long time to eat and give your hands something to do while being healthy.

at 5'8" you should be at around 150 to 170 depending on your build.. if you ride a lot and eat healthy, you could maybe get down to that by April.. you'd really have to work at it though! like several hours a day at least.. and replace most of your meals with soup.. is it warm enough where you are to be riding a bike though? getting sick really messes up an exercise routine..

None...but you can lose plenty (loose is what you want your pants to be as the pounds come off). :)
How MUCH can you lose? That depends on your calorie intake per day, and how many calories you burn a day when exercising. The max recommended to lose in a week is no more than 4, with hopes of keeping it off...
Eat healthy, cut your calorie intake a bit while trying to lose, and exercise regularly (I shoot for 5 days a week, at least 1 hr a day when I want to drop pounds).
Good luck!

depends on how much you exercise you could loose a lot or a little just remember when you start, start small and work your way up.Don't expect to be Lance Arm strong at the beginning. I'm 220 6'1 but I'm in good shape, not fat im built up .Bike ridding is a good way to loose weight if you dedicate yourself to it and don't cheat yourself. Thats one of my favorite ways to exercise.
