Yes the main difference is the length of time and the skills that you learn.

Army basic is ten weeks and stresses basic soldier skills that every soldier needs to know such as first aid, setting up a mine, learning to shoot an M-16 and about 20 other tasks that are part of soldier "Common Task Training." You then go out to the field a couple of times and practice these skills.

Marine Corps boot camp is the longest of the three basic training experiences and much more intense. Many of the skills are similar to what they teach in the Army, but there quite an emphasis on physical conditioning.

Air Force basic training is the shortest of the three and the combat skills are not as big a deal. For example, in the Army and Marine Corps you spend weeks on the rifle range, it used to be that you spent one day there in the Air Force. Mostly Air Force basic will assimilate you into living in the military, but not how to fight in combat.

Basic training is tailored to the main mission of the services. If you join a service where fighting is the key mission expect to learn combat and survival skills. The Air Force is mostly a support and service support based service where they concentrate on keeping planes in the air, therefore they learn different skills.

Most definitely. The Army and Marines are given rigorous physical training as they are mostly used as "foot soldiers", whereas the Air Force do not, as a rule, get involved in one on one fighting in a combat situation. The specialized training given depends on the specialty the individual will be working in. I am an Air Force veteran and was a Flying Crew Chief on refueling aircraft and became a Flight Engineer on Cargo aircraft.

Air Force basic is mostly mental. ( They scream at you from daylight to dark ) and March you everywhere in a hurry and then make you wait. You have to fold your clothes a certain way ( Inches ) and they have inspections just about everyday. You only have to run about two miles a day but I can tell you this it is not as tough as the Marines. In the Air Force one must use your brain a little more. Army is tougher than the Air force and the Navy is much like the Air Force but one must take fire fighting and swimming in the Navy.

My daughter went USAF. A couple of her classmates went USMC. Another went into the Navy.

None of them is a pleasure cruise, but I'm thinking that the USMC training is definitely geared for the Klingons among us.

The Air Force stuff did have physical requirements that you need to take seriously, but it wasn't nearly the Marine Corp standards. M16 training was minimal by comparison, and there wasn't any hand-to-hand combat training.

Air Force Basic-If it rains you do PT in the gym.
Army Basic-If it rains the sargeants kick you into the puddles to make sure you get wet. (no bull)
Marine Basic-You do things in water most of the time anyway so it doesn't matter.
Navy basic-I really have no idea, probably like the Air Force.

Air Force basic is used as training for girl scout camp. If the girls don't make it through the AF bootcamp then they are assigned directly to a nursing home.

I think Basic Training is just what the name implies, Basic and every branch of the service receives basically the same training except for the Navy.
