Iran MOST definitely has alot of influence over Iraq at the moment, and after the visit between the two countries presidents last week, it will be considerably more in the near future.

Iran has already expressed their desire to "wipe Israel off the map" and to destroy America.

Iran's plans for nuclear weapons should be quite evident. This is obviously not going forward with peaceful intentions.

This leaves us in an uncomfortable position. Do we wait for them to achieve their dream of having nuclear weapons, and move forward with attempts to destroy us and our way of life? Or do we take the offensive and destroy them once and for all before they thrust the world into confusion and a religious war?

1) Huge influence. There is a Shia regime in Iran and a Shia majority in Iraq. Their ties are cultural, religious, political and military (militia).

2) Back in the days the US organised a coup against a democratically elected Iranian leader to replace him by a puppet King, so there is 0 Iranian trust in the US. The regime fancies itself as an Islamic champion and want to be seen as humiliating Israel.

3) Iran wants to protect itself against a country that is currently playing God in the Middle East. Are WMD good? Well the countries which have them for themselves seem to think so.

4) The future of war is war. You can't reach an agreement if you don't talk.

5) In my lifetime, the only successful political process I witnessed was in South Africa, by a leader who understood that you won't save your people if you don't save your enemies. Bush thinks he's Churchill. Bin Laden thinks he's Saladin. Who will be our Nelson Mandela?
