i often feel overwhelmed by stress or emotional strains and in order to feel "better" (incontrol and just to feel really) I cut my self sometimes. If Im doing it to fell better (purpose) and the circumstance is I fell bad then shouldn't it be okay because the three component of an act are act itself (morally good, bad or neutral) purpose (morally good or bad) and circumstance.

it isnt wrong babe ... it is something you cant help doing because of the way you cope ( or cant cope i should say )
but you do need help though and feeling guilty about it wont help you
there are ways of getting out of it and finding other strategies with the stress

so please please see your doctor who will give you some advice and point you in the right direction for help

I'm not keen on removing underarm and leg hair, I don't mind it being there. But when I am going to be in a situation where other people can see my legs and underarms (eg swimming) I make sure that I have removed it. Whether we like it or not, society has certain expectations, one of which is that women do not have hairy legs and armpits, and another is that responsible members of society are not covered in self-inflicted scars. That's just the way things are. If I had to consult a professional and had to choose between one covered in these scars and one not, I would pick the one without. So self-harming is not wrong, but the evidence of having done so can have repercussions. What about cross infection, blood borne diseases, wound infections? This can affect others. And why can't people try to deal with distress in a more goal-directed way? Who does cutting help? Yourself, but no-one else. I'm not as negative towards this as I sound. But you did not ask what was acceptable, you asked what was wrong.

If you're cutting to get a temporary relief from a stress or emotional strain, then you're not dealing with the cause of the stress or emotional strain. No amount of cutting will solve the problem. Talk to a doctor or counsellor about the self-mutilation, and let them help you deal with the underlying issue, or the next time you feel the need to cut, call a crisis line instead. They're listed in your phonebook.

You don't need to hurt yourself. Hurting yourself only leaves physical and emotional scars in the long run. By hurting yourself you are using a temporary release to feel something rather than just going out and experiencing life they way it was meant to be. There are positive ways you can feel better and in control. Helping out or volunteering gives you a sense of purpose and control, or even just doing something relaxing like reading a book/magazine or watching a movie can really make you feel good.

I hope this can help. You'll be in my prayers.

People that harm themselves never talk about it. They always hide it. There are the emo kids that try turning it into a fashion statement but that's just ridiculously stupid. It's not the act itself that makes it "wrong" but the reasons you're doing it. If you're doing it without seeking other methods to alleviate problems, that's wrong. If you're doing it for attention, that's wrong. If you're doing it for a valid reason, it's not wrong but that doesn't make it right. The reason you want to watch out is you can become addicted; the cuts can become deeper and more out of control, which ruins your "control high". Email me privately please.

forget about morality for a minute and ask youself why you do it, it's not exactly a healthy way to deal with your problems by hurting yourself. i hope you can find a better way to deal with things, even just talking to someone else may give you a different perspective. Face your fears and sometimes they're not as bad as you imagine

There is a reason you are doing this. Not just for control. Perhaps something way back you don't even remember. Please get help so you can find out what IT is and move on. You need to learn to love yourself.

I just noticed your name. You are not a Happy Catholic. I was also a scared Catholic....please look up scrupulosity.

Is not wrong to harm you, unless you're trying to kill yourself, but my suggestion is to look for professional advise while you are still in control of your mind.

I wish you wouldn't.
Maybe if you had someone to talk things out with, you wouldn't cut.
