I am allergic to mushrooms and was wondering if there are any substitutions for the mushroom soup when making a green bean casserole.

Cream of celery soup. And here's a hint, also: buy a bottle of celery salt, to enhance the taste, without all the NaCl !!

I have often subbed any other 'cream of' soup and added some sliced mushrooms. Often, people will wonder what the other taste is, or did I cook the green beans in somethinf other than water. You might even try a bique or a thick New England style Clam Chowder.

Always experiment and you'll find a nice substitute. There is nothing better than stumbling upon something you can call your own in the kitchen...well, almost.

You might be able to get away with it, but careful on heating sour cream since it does break easily. Here are a couple of alternatives I have used in the past. This is an adjustment to the original green bean casserole recipe. Swiss-style Green Bean Casserole: In step 1, add 1/3 cup sour cream, and reduce milk to 1/3 cup; mix well. Stir in 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese. Proceed as recipe directs.

Oh yes, try using Cream of Chicken soup instead. I'm not crazy about mushrooms either & substitute this instead.

Cream of chicken or celery or onion are fine too. Any cream soup will do.

Cream of anything will work. Cream of chicken, broccoli, or anything really. It'll still be great!
