They don't believe that the Bible was written by God, and subsequently don't believe in Hell. Why would it affect them at all, or rather, what is the point of doing it?

The question isn't "does it have an effect?", it's more like "Why do they expect it to?".

Nope. And it makes me wonder why people keep trying it. I skip over all bible verses - they don't support your case, since the bible is a work of fiction - and I just feel sorry for those who tell me that I'm going to hell for the sin of thinking for myself.

Quoting bible verses and not adding anything in your own words is just rude, it's like saying you can't be bothered to have an opinion on the question, and telling someone to "Go to hell" has been considered insulting for a great many years now--also a lot of people will add their own insults to the combination of the two--If I were to tell you that I curse you and hope you get Aids and die, you'd still find that offensive, even though you don't believe in my curses, right?

I think you'll go to hell is just a distasteful expression. People who don't believe in God or the Bible could care less about this expression. People use this phrase out of a sense of anger, just spouting off. It doesn't mean anything to me. There's no point for me to use it. I don't use the phrase.

To do that only proves my point. The bible is full of hate and intolerance. Most of it should be ignored. Stick with the parables and let the rest of it go. It would have made more sense had it been written by the Brothers Grimm.

It would affect me because your saying it as an insult. Although, I'm an atheist but what if I were to say There is no God? I would need facts to prove that God doesn't exist otherwise that would be insulting.

Exactly. There is a preachy guy in the high street who spouts all this BS, and my boyfriend said to one of this guy's supposed 'followers' (i.e. bodyguards) that this preacher was a fake. When asked how he knew, he replied 'I've seen the movie!' XD
People should keep their beliefs to themselves, and let others believe whatever the heck they want to believe.

Exactly. But I guess they think throwing out a threat like that might work. They don't stop to think that if someone of another religion threatened them in the same way, they wouldn't take it seriously.

I don't quote from the Bible to a non-Christian unless they are trying to take quotes from the Bible out of context.
There is a difference between warning someone in order that they might be SAVED from going to Hell and just straight up telling someone "you're going to Hell". I've noticed that there are people on here who pretend to be Christian and tell people that they are going to hell in order to encourage the negative stereotype of Christians that atheists like to promote.
I've never condemned anyone to Hell. Please review my 869 questions and 942 answers. You won't find one that condemns anyone to Hell. But I will tell someone the truth if they are in DANGER of if because Hell is real. Whether or not they go to Hell depends on their own choices and the judgment of God.
If someone goes to Hell, it's because they sent themselves there.
I recommend reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church if you would like to know more on this.

Well, there often *is* an effect, though perhaps not the one the quoters and damners are hoping for.
The effect of more and more people viewing Christians as arrogant and pushy and smugly self-righteous.

Good question, if the revealed word of God is broken open and explained for people it is very affective, when it is blasted down throats it is not accepted.
