The green parts of plants (eg. in the needle shaped leaves of christmas trees) is called chlorophyll. This is the part that turns light into food. The most common kind of chlorophyll is green because the plant uses up all the other colours in the light from the sun and rejects the green light which isn't useful to it. It transmits the green light and so gives it a green colour. Sounds bizarre when you put it simply like that I know, but it's true - consider the fact that white light splits into different colours (as happens when water in the air reflects light to make a rainbow).

the original Christmas trees were ever Green so as to have a colour because deciduous trees would have just been wood and that would be boring and the tradition of bringing in a tree was introduced by price Albert (queen Victoria's husband) when he came over from Germany

Science doesn't answer "why". If you're wondering what makes Christmas trees green, it's that the chloroplasts in the leaves absorb every color in the visible light spectrum except for green, so that's the color that is reflected and that's what we see.

The 'needles' are modified leaves. Leaves contain chloroplasts containing the green pigment chlorophyll in their cells so they can photosynthesise (i.e. make their food). So, real Christmas trees appear green (various shades depending on the species).

Cos the chlorophyll or something like that in it is green. the chlorophyll reacts with the sun to make it's food.
Also it's green because it's called a deciduous tree. it means it doesnt loose it's leaves.

Because of the species that are used for christmas trees are naturally green.. The best species for use are species of fir (Abies), which have the major benefit of not shedding the needles when they dry out, as well as good foliage color and scent; but species in other genera are also used.
