Loving and losing is a part of being human, it sucks but it makes you stronger and it makes the way you love others stronger. I work in a veterinary clinic and I see grief a lot. The one thing I say to comfort people in that situation is that it was worth it to have their pet in their life, to love and be loved, to reap the rewards of caring for their pet only to lose it, it is worth it.
In the case of romantic love it is also true. I was with a guy for 5 years and he abruptly dumped me and broke my heart after manipulating and deceiving me. It broke me and I was devastated but I came back stronger than ever. I never want to feel that pain and humiliation again but I am grateful to know how strong I can be all on my own.

It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. It gives your heart a learning experience, and maybe it might be a painful one, but you can dwell on the good memories and the good things, and in doing so, your heart will slowly heal. And then one day, your heart will jump up and start beating fast, letting you know its time to let someone in. But if it happens again, you will have the excperience to see you though it. Been there also, and I will continue to give chances.

i have been in love once. im 25. i still love him. i always will. things ended badly. but i wouldnt have traded it for anything in the world. the type of person i became b/c i allowed myself to open up and let someone in is something you can never get back. im a hopeless romantic, and i like to believe that it is better to have loved and lost. thats a part of life. you always lose something at some point. the rewards are greater to take the chance of loving someone with your whole heart, b/c if you are not willing to do that for someone, then why should they be willing to do that for you?

it always seems like its better to have never loved at all after its over and i really want to say that it is but you learn so much from loving someone.

you most likely lose the person when everything is over which is why i want to say its better than to not have loved them at all but in the end, the experience is the best part.

it is better to have loved and lost cause at least then you were truly happy even if it was only for a short time. But the heartache afterwards isn't the nicest

Yes. Yes, it is, because up until the losing it bit, it's jolly fun being in love. And it's all part of the learning curve, even if it doesn't work out.
