It doesn't digest, it just gets passed.

"Chewing gum is made up of the gum itself (called gum resin), preservatives, flavorings, and sweeteners. The human body is unable to digest the gum resin. But swallowed gum does not stay in the stomach or cause intestinal problems. That's because our bodies move most materials that can't be digested (like gum) through the digestive system and out of our bodies in a bowel movement."

chewing gum does do harm, it starts off your digestive process, you secrete salivary amiglase to break down the food, this then sends messages to the rest of your digestive system, they then start secreting acids in awaiting for the partially digestive food. The food doesnt arrive therefore the acids attack the stomach lining, and can gradually cause probs. Why would you want to chew gum? it is very unattractive.

Considering the fact that your stomach acid could burn a hole through a 2 inch rug, you can safely assure yourself that if you accidentally swallow your gum it's alright. It can remain in the intestines a little longer than healthy food, but the same goes with popcorn, which is actually worse for you than swallowing your gum.

Swallowing gum does not harm your body. Your digestive enzymes in your stomach will not break down the gum. Your body will eliminate it (you will pass it in your feces) in a day or so.

people say that it takes 7 years for gum to digest in your stomach but that is not true. have you ever fell asleep with gum in your mouth and when you wake up it is sort of deteriated. well if you saliva can do that imagine what the acid in your stomach can do.

IT USUALLY LINES YOUR INTESTINES. IT IS VERY HARD TO DIGEST. SOME TIMES IT COMES OUT IN YOUR STOOL. SPIT OUT YOUR GUM, ITS THE BEST THING TO DO.
