I'm 10 years old, have a brother who's 15 and I LOVE DOGS! I basically live for dogs. it's long time tell I get a dog but I guess I just want to get ready, so can you tell me what kind of dog would fit my lifestyle?
OK well my mom works 4 days a week. She sleeps in the days (she works night shift) 9-3 but on Fri. she picks me up from school at 12. Usually on school days (besides Fri.) I get out at 3pm. I go to school at 8. My mom works on Fri. Sat., Sun., and Sometimes Mon. SO she has day-offs when I'm at school and can take care of the dog so it wont be alone. When I come I will probably look forward to walking the dog to the park (down the street) and I need a small dog because I want it to be an inside dog. I also want the dog to be friendly with humans and other dogs (MY neighborhood has lots of dogs, that i want it to be friendly with) I can supply all the food, care, and love it needs. O and I want a dog that doesn't get sick that often. Please tell me a what kind of dog, please!

Your life style seems a little busy for a dog. But, you seem to have time for one too. If that makes any sense. You might want a mini schnauzer. They are very friendly need lots of love and attention. But, this dog does have more than a couple problems. Like it's ears get easily inffected and they can have arthritis. They also get over wieght easily too, so if that's the kind of dog you get don't feed it people food.

Another dog you might want is a West Highland White terrier. They are intteligant, playful, small, and love to have all the attention it can get. This dog might need 3 to four walks a day. the minimum three. One in the morining, one when you get home, and one when your done with dinner. This will keep them fit and at the correct wieght. And even better with less energy! You will need to train hard so they have good manners though. This dog doesn't have all that many illnesses. Ear inffection may come along down the road but, not so easily. Make sure to keep an eye out for fleas! Have a fun time!

I suggest that you go to an animal shelter and ask the staff what dogs they have that would meet your needs. You can almost always find dogs that are still young (under three years old) and you can get some idea of what you're getting into as far as temperment and energy level. You can see if the dog is aggressive toward other dogs and might just luck onto one that is already housebroken. Breed isn't always a good indication of what dog would work for you because there are such variations in temperment within a particular breed. Pick a dog based upon how well that individual dog would fit into your household regardless of the breed.

Size doesn't make a dog an outside dog either. I had a 110 lb low energy housedog who did fine on a turnout in the yard with the 90 lb housedog a couple of times a day. When they played they played hard, but when they came inside they were calm and quiet.

I would go down to your local shelter and try to get a dog that is at least 1-2 years old. Some shelters have dogs that are surrendered by their owners, so they know a little bit about their history. As far as size, greyhounds make one of the best apartment dogs. They are very content to laze around all day. So maybe rescue one of those. Every dog is going to be different with how it reacts to humans and other animals. One of the newer breeds that may be worth checking out is a Puggle. A pug and beagle cross. This dog doesn't have the breathing problems of the pug, and is friendly like a beagle. However, because a beagle is a big dog in a little dog body, it would need lots of daily exercise. I would go with an older dog as your first pet. Puppies are very messy and a lot of work (usually the first two months you are up at midnight to let it out and they chew and pee on EVERYTHING!). Past that, go to dog parks and look at and meet different dogs. Then RESEARCH! the breed that you are interested in. A lot of people like terriers, but they are a very hardy dog and need to stay active and a lot of people don't realize this and get into trouble with them. I hope that all of this helps.

A "DASCHUND" = would be a pewrfect choice for you !!

they're compact and have loads of energy, dont eat a lot, cant destroy too many things round the house, low maintainance(since they have short hair)

And they're real cudly and don't break easy f and when you throw them around..! which kids your age are prone too....they are very flexible.. and not much bite in them to retaliate either......!

But the only "con" side is you have to watch their weight and not over-feed them..or u might have his belly grazing the ground.....!

A dachshund would be a good idea as this is a small dog and is usually good around humans. But warning, they can be yippee. But so can a beagle.

hmmm...... School, can provide care, needs an easy-to-get-along-with dog.......Jack russel terrier, yorkie, or a pug. here's how I made that decision:

LAb: to big, to loyal, can't be left alone.
Chuaua: To barkative
Basset hound: To lazy
