Even if you could I doubt the process would be clean & simple.

I suggest using a second hard disk on the same PC to install the new operating system so that you can try it out first. Most newer PCs will allow you to choose the hard disk you wish to boot from.

It's the only failsafe solution.

The only way you will be able to roll back to XP is if you have an image of it. If you upgrade, there is no other easy way of going back.
