Never - why pitch the crate? It's a place of security, their own den. That would be like throwing out your bed -- why would you get rid of it?
If you're asking when you stop locking the dog in the crate and when they can be trusted alone and loose in the house-- that would be when you're sure they're house broken and/or when you're sure they dont' suffer from seperation anxiety and aren't going to damage themselves or your belongings when they aren't confined.

I got rid of all but one crate but wish I had kept the other two in case of travel. The one I keep because I have three dogs and one of them loves to nap in it a lot, so I keep it in a walk in closet with the door open. It makes her very happy. The youngest I kennel at times when I am leaving the house for more than a few hrs. Only because she is so young but she doesn't mind and loves the crate as well. However, the middle dog has laid claim to it as sole den owner when the dogs are all out and it is open.
Crates are great for travelling. If you have to drive a long ways, a crate is great to keep your dog more settled and also in case of an accident.

Don't ditch the crate...
Once you feel it's no longer a necessity, just have a special place for it and leave the door open. I don't shut my dogs in now, but they go in frequently. It's their "safe-haven". It is known throughout the house that if a dog goes in the crate, let it be. Sometimes they just need some "alone" time... I know I do.
It's also nice to have for traveling. Airlines require them; and hotels that allow pets require them to be crated if they are left unaccompanied in the room.

Never. When our dog got older (about 2) we actually took the door off, but never got rid of the crate. When she got into trouble, she would go lay down in her crate.

Yeah, the crate is the dogs best friend. They love their crate because they feel safe and secure in it. But, since I have a golden retreiver, I would have to say maybe a year or two old? I'm really not sure to tell you the truth, but I would keep the crate anyways because they love it as it secures them and makes them feel safe.

For my American Eskimo, she was a very destructive chewer as a puppy and that lasted until about 3 yrs old. By that age, the adult teeth had finally shifted into proper place within her jaw and the urge to chew excessively as puppies do, then passed and the destructive chewing no longer occured. Once that passed, I retired her crate as she no longer was a worry about chewing on things she shouldn't.
I think it varies for each dog tho. Some need it longer than others.

Never...The crate is something that your dog feels safe in. Just make sure as the dog grows its crate doesn't get too small.!

We had to get rid of it's crate when it outgrew it. our dog is unfathomably large. It is over 6 feet tall and around 8 feet long. His name is "Popsicle."
