Cat food is not really bad harmful for dogs to eat, however, the dog should eat his own food. Make sure the dog stops eating the cat food.

No, not harmful at all. I had the same worry when my dog got into the catfood and was loosing her love for the food she should have. I know a dog that lives around my area, and she lives on cat food! Her name is coco, and she won't eat anything but catfood and table scraps. I also feed my dog catfood, because I have both a cat and a dog, so when i run out of either one, they settle for the afternoon with either dog or cat food.
Hint: If you want your dog to stay out of it, move it to a higher place, such as the kitchen table or the dishwasher. That's what I did. So if your dog can hop on the kitchen table I would worry then!!! :-D
Don't Worry! :-D!!

It is not harmful at all mine will eat the cats food if given the opportunity. Now I feed them in different locations to stop that. Now if a cat eats dog food that is different. There are not the nutrients and vitamins needed for a cat in dog food!

I have heard that it is OK for cats to eat dog food but is NOT OK for dogs to eat cat food. Something about the fact that there are certain enzymes in cat food that don't agree with a dog's digestive system. There are times when my dog has gotten into my cat's food and he has thrown up but that is all that happened.

Isn't it weird how dogs love cat food?? lol.. It won't hurt your dog. However, it could fill him up to the point where he won't eat his own food. And since cat food is made based on cats needs, he likely won't get as much of his own food based on his own needs. I suggest feeding your cat and dog separately, if possible, then taking up the food when they are finished. you can always put the bowls back down later for them to eat a bit more, then take it up again. leaving the food there just invites them to dine on each other's food, lol, which is a natural thing for them to try, especially the dog. I do believe that dogs think their one purpose in life is to eat. lol..

It's not harmful but it's better your dog eat dog food. If he is eating out of the cat food bowl, put the bowl up on a table or shelf where your dog can't reach it. But no, it won't hurt him.
