Im 17 and have been smoking for 2 years but I believe I have never been addicted to cigarettes.

When I say i have been smoking for 2 years I don't mean everyday. I recon I have averaged about 5 cigarettes a week for 2 years, but I never feel like I 'need' a cigarette I just really enjoy having one, thats all.

I never smoke on my own, only with mates, but I've got friends who are addicted to smoking because they avverage about 4 cigarettes a day. However, i can have about 4 cigs one day then not have aaymore for the rest of the week!

I know I can give up if I want to, but have never really feel like i need to because it hasn't affedcted me in any way that i can notice.

does what I have just said prove that I can handle cigarettes, if i continue at the rate im going?

I hate to say this, and seriously, I'm not trying to bust your chops, but people who don't have a problem breaking a habit don't wonder if they have a problem, nor do they ask anyone else.

Dunno how else to say it. If you're wondering if something you're doing is or will be a problem, there's a really good chance it will.

If you are able to continue exactly as you described, well, my hat is off to you, because you are able to do what almost all people who start smoking are unable to do, and that's control your consumption.

If people could start and quit smoking at will, there would be no need for smoking cessation programs, and you wouldn't hear people complaining that they want to quit and can't.

In answer to whether of not you can handle cigarettes, the key words are in your own question: "...if i continue at the rate im going".

Do you have a problem with smoking? The answer, as far as I can tell, is, "not YET".

And there *is* a yet.

HA i thought the exact same thing. i thought that i wasnt addicted to smoking and i just did it cuz i found it fun. face it, it is impossible to smoke and not get addicted. When you inhale the smoke the niccotine goes to your brain blah blah im sure u no all this but after a few cigarettes your brain will start to need the niccotine no matter if you know it or not. AANnny ways, i thought that i would stop because i didnt wanna die from cancer or lose my life wen im forty so i simply said t omyself that i would stop cuz im not addicted. it was soooo hard. i would find myself rationalizing having a cigarettete it would be like, i didnt wanna smoke but next thing i knew i would find myself lighting up and i was only having one or two a week. my advice to you is, quit for a year and if you can do that no problem then your not addicted

If you only have five cigarettes a week, no you are not addicted, but it can grab you at anytime so I would suggest putting them down now, while you can with no effort...Plus there are so many poisons in cigarettes, it's not the nicotine that kills you, its the poisons and the tar...Why make your body toxic? Be healthy, don't follow the crowd and in 20 years you'll be glad you did.

My friend .Cigarettes are boocoo bad. I watched my sister die of lung cancer 2yrs ago,my aunt 6.5yrs ago and numerous others .[people I have worked with, friends, neighbors, etc.] all because of an ugly habit society basically ignores. I used to smoke too. But when Mary died [my sister]I PROMISED myself her death would not be in vain. I WILL NEVER SMOKE ANOTHER freakin cigarette again! Not only do they hurt your lungs but the toxins go where ever your bloodstream goes. Think about it.

No, it proves you haven't made the first step in fighting your addiction: Admiting it.

Sorry bub, you're addicted.
