The Catholic religion is horrible with the discrimination of women. In the Bible in Cor. it actually says "a woman should not speak in church, if she has a question she is to wait and ask her husband when they get home". The Romans altered the Bible thousands of years ago and used the Bible to mold the society that they wanted to have. Sad but true.
If that conspiracy did actually happen I wouldn't be surprised that they would have killed her. The Catholic church was extremely corrupt for many centuries and to a degree still is (ex. priests "taking advantage of" the alter boys).

It was quite a bit earlier then that, just after Charlimagne I think. See the Article in wikipedia.com. There is no strong evidience from that time to say that she existed so if it was covered up it was a good one. The things that make me wonder is that after that part of the papel ceremony was for the new pope to sit on a chair and for someone to check and confirm that the new pope was a man. The really interesting thing was that during the trial of the martyr Jan Hus in Constance he used the case of Pope Joan to argue the falibiliy of the pope and the prosicution did not deny it.
Anyway I understood that she was either stoned or died in child birth on the Appan Way in Rome. Definitely something to think about.

Little is understood approximately her for the reason that she did not exist. An array of reference books, from the Encyclopaedia Britannica to the Oxford Dictionary of Popes, disregard Pope Joan as a legendary or mythical determine, not more truly than Paul Bunyan or Old King Cole. Scholars generally tend to agree. The leader weak spot of the Pope Joan tale is the absence of any today's proof of a feminine pope throughout the dates recommended for her reign. In each and every example, clerical documents exhibit any individual else maintaining the papacy and doing deeds which can be transcribed in church historical past. Another challenge is the hole among the alleged occasion and the inside track of it. Not till the thirteenth century–four hundred years after Joan, via probably the most accredited bills, dominated–does any point out of a feminine pope seem in any files. That's similar to phrase breaking out simply now that England in 1600 had a queen named Elizabeth.

There is no truth to any off the stories that Pope John VIII was a woman named Joan - but its funny how these urban legends can take off.
Good Luck!!!
Now if only that story that I am a billionaire were true - then that would be cool ;-)

There was a time when several people claimed to be the true pope. One of them was a female, but she was never deemed the pope by the church.
It is not possible to have a female pope, as it is against our beleifs. Not that a woman wouldnt be able to do it, but a man stands as representing Jesus on earth, and a woman should not.

In the 13th century a legend started about a woman who tricked the church into accepting her as pope. The legend says this happened around the year 855.
However, there is no facts or history to support this legend.

The whole thing is a legend. She was found out, supposedly, when she went into labor during some sort of papal march. Both her and her baby were immediately stoned to death.
Her whole story kind of reads like the movie "Yentl". Young girl wants to get an education and disguises herself as a man. She ultimately goes up the ranks to become pope, though I don't think she intended to.
