Why not be for you spend all your cash on something that you might not need, installing the latest version of Windows Media Player which is number 11 at the moment.
Download this from Microsoft.com ( downloads ) only takes a few minutes to do and when it's installed you will have to re-start your computer, then you will able to watch your DVD-ROM films.
By doing this you will get rid of any error message's and your DVD drive will once again be able to play films and CD-ROM music disk's as the download has everything in the software to make it all work,. hope this helps.

you are trying to play the DVD through a dvd player right? as in a CD-ROM that has DVD capabilities?...

thats the only thing i can think of that would be stopping you...

because although you may not be aware, dvd's will not play on standard cd-rom cd-r/w drives...

Dont panic though, a dvd rom drive will only cost about 15-20 pounds.

Failing that check the cd drive in (control panel, system, hardware devices, cd drives) and ensure that the player is set to play the region of dvd you generally use...

PLEASE NOTE! computer dvd players are techincally ALL REGION, but you can only change the region of playing FOUR time maximum... so be careful if this is the case... its not worth the agro you have to go through after you exceed these 4 region changes...

Well some of the DVD you can't play because of their system patent, and you have to download their system to view it.However if you have Win DVD software you can do play it in windvd software program.Which is called as Inter Video DVD players software.First of all check program list, your computer mfrs might have loaded it on your computer,if not reload the software by system recovery CD.Or go to your computer mfrs website and down load it.Check when you downloaded window media player..as default player..open it and remove the check mark from default media player. On top of this still you like to play in window media player.First of all download the Macromedia flash player free from http://www.adobe.com website as an your browser plugin. After download complete.Reboot your computer and play the DVD again.

You can verify if you have a DVD drive rather than an ordinary CD-Rom drive by looking at the front of the drive itself. If you see the DVD logo *and* the Compact Disc logo then it's a DVD drive. If you see *only* the Compact Disc logo then its just a CD drive and you wont be able to play DVDs on it.

Well what I suggest is get Musicmatch Jukebox from DELL. It allows you to copy songs from CD's, even ones you downloaded from the Internet, and burn it on a CD or in a MP3. I use it almost every day to listen to my songs from my laptop.
