a hypotonic solution is when there is a higher concentration of solute inside of a cell than there is in the area surrounding it. this may cause a cell to swell. an animal cell could potentially burst but i'm not sure about a plant cell since it has a cellulose cell wall surrounding it. you may also want to learn about hypertonic solutions to compare and contrast them.

an isotonic solution is composed of 0.15M NaCl 9g/l. Its osmolarity is 0.3.
If you put red cells in that solution, their volume will not change.
If you put red cells in a solution which has less Nacl, their volume will increase. Under 3g/l the red cells explode because liquid enter in the cells. So ,if you inject a liquid in the veins with hypotonic solutions it is harmful.

An other isotonic solution is a solution of saccharose 0.3m 100g/l . this solution has the same osmolarity than water
