How can I get my dog to stop a) following me everywhere and b) begging for food?
I can't leave the room without her or she'll sit there and whine and bark and scratch until I come back. I had company the other day, so I put her in my bedroom and closed the door. She barked, whined and dug/scratched for 2 whole hours!! Shes small, and I love her to death, but I am so tired of tripping over her or getting knocked down the stairs from where she thinks racing up them is a game.
She begs for food CONSTANTLY. We've changed her diet, tried ignoring her and everything. Nothing seems to work. She's been to a trainer 4 or 5 times now but ends up going back to her same old habits. I'll even put a few table scraps in her bowl and she still will sit almost literally right on top of me and beg! She will even take food off my plate!!!

Oh, we can't get her to go potty outside, either. We'll leave her outside for an hour or so (no longer because she's short haired and it's only been about 20 degrees here lately) but she'll wait until she comes into go potty. We clean her mess up AUTOMATICALLY. She tells us when she's done it, but she won't tell us before hand. We've tried puppy pads - she'll just rip them up. We've tried doggie diapers, she'll just take them off. We feed her on a set schedule, 3 times a day. When we take away her food, we take away her water. We take her out about half an hour to 45 minutes after she's eaten because she's small, leave her out there...and well, you know the rest. We got brand new hardwood floors about 7 months ago. We've already had to replace a few planks because of her peeing on them repeatedly. I just don't know what to do!!!

what kind of dog do you have?, my friend has a little white dog, and she has pretty much the same problem. the dog is obviously very attatched to you, start spending a little bit of time away, and then a little bit more. also if you take the dog on really long walks, and tire her out, then she might be a bit more calm. my dog also begs for food (i blame my dad) turn your back to her, if she gets obnoxious, remove her from the room. make sure she eats after you so that you are the dominent person in the relationship. if she ever jumps up on our at you, shove her off and say "OFF!" really loud and firm, and then turn you back to her.
also, this might seem cruel, but get a shock collar, you dont even need a shock, you could just try the beeping noise it makes, but when your dog starts to bark, and/or scratch at a door, make a TINY shock, since your dog is small, it wont hurt her that badly, but if she makes a yelping noise, the shock is to high, i had to use a shock collar on my dog, because she kept running away when i took her down to the beach. we didnt have to use that much of a shock and it worked really well. keep using the shock collar untill you dont have to use it anymore, THEN take it off and see if it had its effect
=)
oh, and about the potty thing, take your dog out every 2 hours or so, and say "go potty" or whatever, and then wait untill she goes, when she does get VERY excited and say "good potty, good girl, good potty" make sure you act extra excited

You have literally created a monster. If you taught or allowed the dog to do these things, you can untrain the dog as well.
My dog has to be in everyroom I occupy or she lays at the top of the stairs and monitors the activity in every room. She gets on my last nerve.
So what I do is when she is sleeping, I go and bother the **** out of her. Keeps her sort of inline.
She begs too. She will sit about 5-10 inches away. Once I yell at her, she's cool, but she won't take her eyes off me.
My suggestion to you is to get a baby gate, ignore her (hard as it may be) and use puppy pads. Or as soon as the dog eats take it ot. The dog needs to get on a regular feeding schedule and bathroom schedule. It doesn't happen overnight. Don't give up.
By allowing the dog to get away with what you do, you are only hurting it healthwise and psychologically. Me, I never got a dog that was not housetrained. #1 criteria when getting a dog. Is it housetrained? No, sorry. see you later. You just have to be firm.
Or, the worse case scenario, write a letter to the Ceaser, the Dog Whisperer from TV.

following you everywhere is likely due to either 1) her breed, some breeds are natural born lap-dogs that insist on 24/7 attention. 2) separation anxiety, talk with the trainer again about what to do for that.
begging for food is because she's a dog, and that's what dogs do. you've tried ignoring her, but for how long? sometimes it takes weeks and weeks of ignoring before a dog will finally get the idea. my doxie can be fast asleep across the room and snoring. the very second i pick up food he's immediately alert and at my feet, begging. i think it's some kind of built in 'food-dar' (like radar) that all dogs have. lol
you could try 'clicker training' for both these behaviors, and can find the book and clicker at petsmart. it's fun for you and the dog, and it really works!
you could try putting her in a crate with some toys while you are busy or while you are eating. she'll still be able to see you, will still feel 'part of the family', but won't be able to continue her behaviors. ignore her while she's in there! when you let her out, give her extra attention and love.

Since you have already tried four or five trainers it seems like the dog is not working out for you and I would hope that you could find her a very good home. Otherwise I would suggest that you work more intensely with the trainer you liked best, ideally someone that can do a few home visits and work with you on your turf after observing the behavior you do not like.
What you are describing sounds normal for many dogs that are not trained or where training is not reinforced. GL with your dog. It could be that another breed would be more suited to you. I have three dogs and all of them are different in personality. One is very laid back. They would all beg if allowed and they all need reminders not to. None of them scratch the door if I have to put them in a room for certain company. Two had to be trained not to. Your dog seems like she really likes being around you.
I hope you can work this out.

First of allo this is going to be har don you because you started to feed her table scraps. YOU HAVE TO TELL HER NO AND IGNORE HER.
Whining and potty are alot easier to correct. Does she have a crate? I suggest crate training her becasue she will associate the crate as a home than the whoel house as a washroom free zone. be very consistant with the potty training. Time her how long it usually takes for her to go to the washroom after she eats. about 5 minutes before she would normally go take her outside and wait, dont let up until she goes. then REALLY REALLY reward her for going outside.
You have to ignore the bad behaviours. dogs do have temper tantrums and you have to let them have them and they will learn fairly quickly that they cant get away with he bad stuff. reward when she is really good. and she will learn.

Have you tried the word NO, I mean say it like your really mad, Let her feel your anger and disappointment in her behavior. The dog has abandonment issues, I would get another dog for her to play with , this usually will help with YOU being her whole world, And a doggie door so she can go out when she has to go, Maybe she can't pee on command. Good Luck!

I desire I might say that I might support you appreciate your 3 very cogent features. Unfortunately, I are not able to considering that I believe you on they all. Hope you will have a quite thick epidermis considering that you are in charge to get a few flaming responses from persons who feel that disagreeing with the federal government is traitorous and have got to be punishable (you recognize, variety of find it irresistible is in international locations that are not democracies). Sadly, there are plenty of persons in the market who do not appreciate that the present management has been at high-quality incompetant and conceited and at worst, immoral and intentionally cheating with the American persons. Hopefully persons have all started to notice that the present management isn't valuable of the role it holds - I feel that is why there have been such sweeping alterations within the mid time period elections and why Bush's rankings have plummeted. Pretty so much all a Democrat needed to do to make a well displaying within the midterms was once say "I'm no longer a Republican." I'm the spouse of a targeted forces soldier who has been away for three deployments and can more commonly grow to be going again once more; he is a reservist and I do not feel any person can justifiably name them "weekend warriors" any longer while they are deploying up to energetic infantrymen are. He loves the army however he thinks it is a crime to ship infantrymen to battle with out the right gear and to muzzle or forget about generals who've cast plans that disagree with civilians' suggestions of the way to combat a battle and substitute them with generals who're inclined to move together with some thing the Defense Secretary says. The present management is depending on spin to check out to salvage what they are able to from a terrible problem; how unhappy is it once we begin to listen to Orwellian double talk coming from our leaders. And how unhappy is it while persons to nowadays are confident that Iraq was once in the back of nine-eleven in spite of all of the proof that is pop out to the opposite? I heard an interview with a soldier who mentioned he took tapes of the towers falling on nine-eleven to exhibit his troops in Iraq so they would appreciate why they had been there. Except that Iraq and Saddam Hussein had not anything to do with nine-eleven. In reality, Hussein was once an enemy of al-Qaida's.

Sorry, but all of the problems you mention are a result of poor training on your part. Perhaps you should research and take classes?
