My neighbour works in a bank. He and his wife (homemaker) do argue some times. She wants her husbend to agree whatever she tells. She does not bother for anything. If he won't agree due to any valid reason then she will go for hunger strike. She will starve for two or three days and fourth day she would start eating. Slowly she becomes normal. He is really bothering with her behaviour. How he can make her normal? Does she need any theraphy? I have seen same kind of behaviour with some other women too.

She is blackmailing him. Ask both them to see doctor immediately without any delay. This behaviour definitely affects her interms of health in long run. Our body always tries to absorb some proteins/carbohydrates/vitamins/other stuff from our food. If those are unavailable then it tries to get it from body muscles/fat/blood etc. This process harms her brain too. Doctor only will treat her by using medicines/behaviour therapy.

Eating patterns are often used as a way to control and manipulate other people. Children do it to parents all the time because they know that the parent will be worried about the child's health and will hopefully give in to whatever demands the kid is making.

It sounds to me like this woman is using food to control and dominate her husband. If she can't get her way, she "starves" herself, but the fact that she always eats after a few days tells me that she's just putting on an act. If she was really serious about a hunger strike, she'd continue until she collapsed.

This really does sound like a psychological issue and one that probably won't go away without therapy. If your neighbor is really bothered by his wife's actions, that's just putting extra stress on him and the marriage. I'd say some good counselling sessions for each of them individually and together as a couple would probably be of great benefit.

Well, I am not condoning it nor am I condemning it. I do know that I don't have an appetite sometimes and then it comes back and that's the God's honest truth. Mind you I love food and will eat it but if I am unhappy food does not appeal to me and I think that is quite natural.

Unfortunately, its very easy to sit back away from the situation and judge others. Its hard when you really do not know what goes on in her mind and what are the reasons she refuses to eat, it could be that she is just temporarily unhappy about the argument which is quite natural.

Let her be, the situation should resolve itself, before therapist came to the world there was intuition and maybe, just maybe that's why she eats on the fourth day.

She needs therapy. It's crazy to go on a hunger strike just to get your own way. It's using guilt and manipulation.

It sounds like she is extremely difficult to get along with. She may, in fact, need therapy. But, he needs to not put up with that behavior. If she won't eat, that's her problem. It certainly doesn't mean that he should give in to her demands. She'll eat when she's hungry. In fact, studies show that occasional fasting is actually beneficial to the body.

That's called Emotional Blackmail, where you force someone to submit to your will through manipulation of their emotions.

She sounds very, very sick. Yes she needs therapy.

If she were my wife I would argue with her all the time so that I could save on the grocery bill and maintain a slim spouse. Every cloud has a silver lining. Oh, by the way, pass the mashed potatoes. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
