That is the 20 Billion dollar a year question. Numerous studies have been done as to the net effect of illegal immigration and they all say pretty much the same thing. Illegal immigration is a net DRAIN on Americas economy. There is no benefit.

Consider: What would happen if all the illegals stopped paying on their car debts cuz they were exported. Many drive huge, gas guzzling cars/trucks vans. Who would buy those cars and take up the slack?
Who would do the cheap labor that has put many, many Americans out of biz (gardners, laborers, consturction, low level entry jobs) There are too few Americans who can/would do those jobs to immediately take up the slack. America would flounder and be crippled for a while. Could we adjust quickly enough?
What would happen in the schools of say, Calif. where in many areas certain schools have as high as 90% illegal immigrant children enrolled. The schools get paid daily for attendees. The schools would go bankrupt directly.
Consider that doctors offices, hardware stores, dept stores, gas stations, nursing homes and on would have no labor. Assuming such place could survive a short while, in that time, retail prices would skyrocket. The rest of us in America would be devastated financially.
I mention the above bacause it is too late to change. America is finished for all purposes. The error that has been made was a fatal one. Soon enough, all the illegals will no longer be content to work for $6 an hour and will ask for more. Who can deny them? There is no one else to do the work. This is what allowing illegal immigration to the extent it has developed into has done to America. Short sightedness due to corporate greed and governmental corruption and ineptitude are the reasons principaly. American apathy (mia culpa as well) and trust in their government is also at fault.
These are the real reasons nothing is being done, I fear.

Because the Bush administration does not think we need to patrol our borders. Should have been the first order of affairs after 9-11! He does not care that this is costing the middle class American people an arm and a leg! After all, he will never have to worry about money! He thinks it a fine idea to let all the illegal Mexicans into our country to rob our system and breed and create high crime rates. He can always take his family off to safety while we are dealing with all of this! He just does not care and to prove this he even wants to give them amnesty after breaking the law to get here! What is happening is awful and this administration has some explaining to do! The best thing for the country would be if Bush would just walk away before he destroys us as a nation! For the record, I welcome all immigrants who come here legally, this includes Mexicans who go through the legal system to get here! The others need to just go home!

I agree! In Northern Virginia, people are arrested for things like drunk driving, and found to be illegal, and not deported or put in jail! I don't get it! If you break the law, you suffer the consequences. No one is exempt.
