My neighbors daughter has a friend who was born with a birth defect. One of her arms is cut off just below the elbow. She is a really sweet girl and is 15. Problem is some ignorant people make fun of her. She acts like it doesnt bother her but I know it does and I just want to smack the **** out those people. Can someone help me with something she can say to these people. When children say things to her I told her to say that when she was little she made fun of someone and the manner monster did that to her. Is that wrong? Any suggestions?

I suggested the manner monster to her for the children that do not know any better. I need something for the kids her age that should know better.

I question whether any of those "ignorami" were intelligent enough to even understand what you told her to say about the "manner monster". In her place, I wouldn't even bother trying the "slick comeback". I would just look that person dead in the eye, with an absolutely straight face, and say quietly "Y'know" some people have deformities that show, others have deformities that don't show. But you can hear it every time they open their mouths. I would rather have a physical abnormality and a clear sound mind, than the other way around. Some day you are going to know what I mean"
After that, I would have one of my parents go to the parents of whichever children it is mocking me and advise them to instruct their kid to cease and desist or I will have to take some further legal action to put a stop to this harrassment. If any of this behaviour is occurring at school, then the School Principal should be informed in a similar manner. "YOU do whatever you need to do to stop this harrassment of my child, or I will go to a higher authority"

manner monster is not a good thing for a 15 yr old but fine for kindergarten. i suggest that when riddiculed her response be to laugh, and reply "no help for me but as for your problem might i recommend Dr Kivorkian."

I used that quite a bit during my Navy years and - it tended to shut the smart ones up, the stupid ones never realized the insult but most around were happy to explain to the morons that i had suggested they begone from this life. Suggesting people dont deserve the right to life usually takes them aback and in this day of excessive mental weakness pretty much keeps them at bay.
the other alternative probably the better one is to just pray for the poor idiots even tell them that you'll pray for them.
after all you are dealing with fragile teenagers so suggesting assisted suicide could permanantly damage the psychi of the verbal bully after all those types generally have large insecurity complexes compounded with very low self esteem

"Yeah it's ok, I really didn't need that arm so I had it cut off. Keep laughing I just might have them cut yours off and smack it across your mouth."

Nah, that's bad. Just have her get the MANNER MONSTER on a leash, and Im sure no kids going to bother her again.

Well, I think that focusing on a "reason" or justification for her disability is the right track. Perhaps pointing out that, despite her disability, the girl is still able to do things that the insulter is not capable of?

I think its a good one... coz if children are making fun of her due to this, we can not blame them - they are still kids and they do not understand that it is not right. this answer can teach them not to make fun of physically challenged people - later on when they grow up they will automatically understand the right and wrong...

Smart of you to come up with this.... good work...

I hope she will be able to go through all this and grow up to be a winner!!!

try to think of something wrong of the insulter(s),and by the way,
15 year olds do not believe in the''manner monster'',even
if they don't know better.

That's a funny comeback...but maybe a little too childish for a 15 year old...

Maybe something like:

Well at least God gave ME a full conscience, unlike some other people.

when i was a kid people made fun of my name, Penny... saying all the stupid stuff... and finally one day i turned to them and said as long as i have myself i will never be broke and i'll always be one more penny richer than they could ever be... they stopped making fun of me.. when i read what you wrote the first thing that popped into my mind, is that god gave her one arm because we do what takes us using two arms... she can do with one... she's that good!
