Are the Deli employees trained to ALWAYS give more than a "pound"--so that the price goes up a little over the pound price. If I wanted 1.06 pounds, I'd ask for it. I think that it's nationwide-regardless of where I go, if I ask for a pound, I never just get a "pound" of lunch meat or cheese

You have the option of saying, "No, I don't want any over the weight that I asked for." It's hard to get exact weight, but they can usually get it slightly under by taking off enough slices to make the difference.

And if they refuse, you have the right to say, "I'll take my business elsewhere." The extra money might not seem like a lot, but it all adds up, both in their profit and the deficit in your budget.

You have the option of saying "a little less" when it runs over 1.00. When I ask for a pound of anything (meat, shrimp, cheese) they get up to about .96 or so and then ask if that's OK. If I need more, I just say "a bit more". Then it's 1.04 or something and I say that's fine.

You have the choice to say when.

In my experience, the assistant asks "a little bit over?", giving you the option of saying no, and getting slightly less.

They need to do this, because if they did not try to get at least the exact weight, you would always get less weight.

because either it goes a little over or a little under - being on the spot is very difficult because each slice has a weight!!!

Try to get exactly a pound of apples without slicing one!!!! you will have the same issue.

Eash slice weighs slightly different, so you'll always get slightly over or slightly under. It'll be luck if you do get exactloy pound. Why don't you find out for yourself by slicing your own?!

no we are not trained to do so... it depends on what weight i will get at first if its a little under il ask if they want more if its over il ask if they want less.... i never ask if over is ok cos i realise that there are ppl that take it the wrong way, like you have.

It'll never be exact and they want to make more sales, that's why. It's their point of sale.
