My 13-year old Shih Tzu, Molly, has a swollen vulva area. I don't know what to do, and I'm bringing her to the vet on monday. Please leave all thoughts/feelings/advice/information. Thanks so much!

This can be very normal. Each dog is as individual as us humans. Sometimes this area can become irritated if the dog cleans itself continuously, just keep an eye.
Each female can have her own unique reactions to the changing hormones in her system.

If she's not spayed, could be a number of things. As long as she is acting OK, it's better to wait for the vet's appointment than to worry yourself here.

i would assume that if she is 13, and not spayed, you would know the normal symptoms of heat and/or menstration. i would also assume that dogs, just like humans, can get infections, and i would definitely have her looked at. you might also want to check her normal outdoor and indoor areas, and bedding, to make sure there isn't anything she might be rubbing against and irritating herself.

Has she been spayed? If not, she's long overdue.
