Looking specifically for a CHRISTIAN answer, but anyone can answer.
Why is the creation story in Genesis diffrent in two diffrent chapters?
I am a Christian, so Im not looking to disprove christianity or the Bible, but this is the ONLY Bible discrepancy that bothers me, and Im wondering about it.

Very simple..it's not 2 account of the same thing. Chapter 1 say's that Male and Female were CREATED. Chapter 2 say's Adam was FORMED.!!! In the first, all the races were created..in the second, Adam and Eve were formed to FARM the land. That would explain where Cain got his wife..from the 1st creation....smile.
BTW..that was the short version....hope it helps.

The Bible actually is full of such "discrepancies." Some folks try to explain them away (the created vs. formed argument) or even ignore them entirely.
These are considered problems only if you think of the Bible as written by one or two people as a smooth, well-integrated document. The fact is, the Bible is a collection of many books written over the centuries, all under inspiration heard differently by the writers.
The creation stories in Genesis came from two traditions, which scholars call the Yahwist and the Priestly traditions. They are telling the same story, but the same story as relayed by different people who had heard the story told and retold countless times.
Does this make one right and the other wrong? Does it mean the Bible isn't reliable? Not at all. It is the Word of God, written by writers inspired by God. We can't confuse it with a textbook, which apparent discrepancies would render useless.

Please show the verses. I have read Genesis many times and have found no discrepancy. Feel free to instant message or e-mail me. I see that the problem is resting with the word formed as opposed to the word created? If i create a bend and i form it from wood is it not still my creation especially if I first created the wood? BTW We are all decendants of Adam therfore there is one creation. Cains wife also was a decendant of Adam who lived over 900 years and so did his offsping and begot entire civiliztions of children grand children great granchildrena and so on.

These are oral traditions passed down through generations. Each story will be told a little different. Plus, they were written by men. Just like the Gospels contradict each other because they were all written at different times by different people.

Actually it is not different. It is a particular style of Hebrew writhing. You will find it in a lot of places in the Bible.

I know the answer but I forgot. I think one is the story and the other is an overview or something like that.

Do not bind God by time.
Do not tell God how to fulfill His prophecies.
