i have a 7week old mix breed puppy that seems to have a extra claw on one of her back legs. Im just wondering could this be because she's a mix bread *mute*. And could this be any harm, its quite cute actually.

If this is a totally formed dewclaw it might never bother her, if it is not totally formed like it is very floppy with the claw attached, it might not be a bad idea to remove it. Well, GitEmGang, you answered this question, like I didn't think you would. Especially after the question about dewclaws on Shepherd puppies. We normally do not remove front dewclaws on Shepherds. (Even the show dogs! LOL)

That's probably a dew claw. Some dogs have them, some dogs don't: they aren't usually a problem unless they're very loosely attached, and there's a danger they might catch against something and get torn off. If that's the case, they are sometimes amputated to prevent that from happening; but as it's probably not the case, don't worry. And congrats on your new addition! :)

If it's a dew-claw, those are normal. If it's a double dew-claw, that's normal as well, since some breeds have that.
Your dog probably is just mixed with a breed that has that quality. Don't worry about your lil' mutt.

That is a very common thing of dogs they can be purebred or mix i have a purebred lab and he had them. Normally when you have your dog fixed if you ask the vet they will remove it as well. They normally do not cause a problem if left on my gram has a dog she is 8 and never had a problem.

dew claw, just make sure to watch it as it grows and whenever you clip the other claws, carefully clip that one as well, watch it so that it doesnt grow and curl in to the pad, cause that will be very painfull and may require surgery.

Its probably just a dew claw or something along those lines. No harm whatsoever as long as it doesn't impede her movement.

It is not unusual and not intrinsically harmful. It can, however, become harmful and a nuisance if she gets it caught on things (especially rugs or carpets). If you notice any problems, talk to your vet about getting it removed. Otherwise don't worry about it.

if it worries you or bothers her, mention it to the vet when you take her in for her shots. it is a common thing in certain breeds, but your vet should look at it just to be sure.
