I think it was Abraham, but it doesn't sound fair to me that God would do that. I wouldn't feel like God loved me if He commanded someone to sacrifice my own life.

I know it was to test his faith, but why would God have him kill an innocent person?

i understand. but try to realize this was centuries ago, when people were devoted to God with all their heart. And remember Abraham recieved the same message over and over and over again. When he told his son. His ownn son agreed to this because they have both have sooo much faith and trust in god, that they know what ever god does its for the better. Thats right, they trusted God with all their heart.

And so look at the outcome, Abraham didn't sacrifice his son, he sacrificed an Animal.

Moral of the story: basicaly what ever happens trust your lord. and keep faith in him.

Okay, I know off the bat that this may seem immoral or illogical to say it was a "test of faith." However, the important thing is that it was not the "killing" but the "sacrifice" that mattered.

A person's child is what is most sacred to them, along with their wealth (for most people.) And Abraham had wanted a son for many, many years! Not just that, but he had already sent away one of his sons and one of his wives as a test, but to completely get rid of them would be a greater test.

God knew the loyalty of His creation (Abraham,) but it was also something to show Abraham of his OWN loyalty and devotion. Sometimes, when we are put under such harsh conditions, we make the wrong or selfish choices that only benefit us in the near future and not long-term. This test was proof to Abraham himself that in his heart of hearts even his own son was worth giving to God, b/c God was the creator of that son, and He could bless him with one more at any time. Abraham is the most remembered prophet of all monotheistic religions, so he had his honor and success waiting for him after his death, and only God could do that for him.

Lastly, since God knew that Abraham would choose to sacrifice his son, He replaced the son with a ram ... this was His Mercy, because in reality, He did not want the son, He just wanted to grant Abraham the realization and serve as an example and role model for us. He will not ask us to sacrifice our own children today, because we are not at that higher level of piety, but there are smaller sacrifices we can make, knowing that the greatest men that lived did so much more, and we can use them as examples in our own lives. :)

God is not going to give Heaven without Testing us all. Thts what exactly He did w/ Abraham.

He commanded him to sacrifice his son. When he was about to do it, immediately God sent a Sheep through His Angel and replaced his son with tht sheep.

Abraham Got A++ in the Test. God is Merciful we should remember tht.

Context. Context. Context.

Abraham lived hundreds of years before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses and the Jewish people.

Abraham lived in a society where human sacrifice and child sacrifice was the normal thing to do.

God was just beginning to reveal himself to mankind and Abraham did not have the Bible or much of anything else to go on.

Abraham knew that his son was a gift from God. If God demanded that Abraham kill the son, then Abraham, although it probably broke his heart, would do it.

Under the same circumstances (context) would we be able to follow God's will?

Under the much easier circumstances that we live in today, can we follow God's will as Jesus revealed it to us?

With the Ten Commandments, the Prophets, and especially Jesus Christ as part of our current circumstances (context), God would not put us to this test.

But we do have similar issues to tackle, like abortion where we kill our children who are miraculous gifts from God just like Isaac was to Abraham.

In abortion we sacrifice our children to the gods of lust, convenience, economy, and selfishness.

With love in Christ.

He was testing Abraham to see if Abraham was truly loyal to Him,
and if he could sacrifice all he had for God.

If you keep reading further down in Genesis 22, the angel of the Lord stops Abraham from killing his only son, and tells him not to hurt his son, it was a test from God to see if he has the Fear of the Lord.

Sounded cruel to me to.
The thing was that Abraham was the first human to be ever chosen again since creation and sin by Adam and Eve.
Back then God already knew about sacrificing his own son (Jesus) and it was all about testing Abrahams faith into the promise god had given him and his love to god
Jesus later on would be innocent too. God gave his own son as a sacrifice but was easy enough on Abrahm not to be asking that of him.
So he had to test Abrahm if he would be worthy of that new covenant.

Because of the faith of Abraham, he believed that even if he sacrificed his only begotten son, Isaac, of promise; God would raise his son from the dead & keep His promise. Abraham believed in the Resurrection.

Abraham believed God and it is counted to him as righteousness. God told Abraham that God would provide the sacrifice and Abraham saw the ram stuck in the thorns.

Isaac had sinned in his life so couldn't be the redeemer for mankind. So, God sent His Only Begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him will not perish but will have ever lasting life. Jesus had to be a Lamb without blemish. So, Jesus was born of a virgin, without sin nature, and when tempted by that old snake, overcame the devils deception and didn't sin / rebel against God. Jesus was the sacrifice, who shed His own blood to redeem us from our sin. Because He was without sin, He raised from the dead. (The wages of sin is death.)

God loves you sooo much and that is why He sent His Only Begotten Son. Jesus paid the price to cover your sins. You just need to recognize your are a sinner needing a Savior. Confess Jesus Christ your Lord & believe in your heart the Resurrection and you will be saved.

It was a test to Abraham to see his loyalty. God had promised Abraham a child his whole life and Abraham waited on God. Now that Abraham had the promise fullfilled, God wanted to see if he would remain loyal. When God saw he would remain loyal, He told Abraham not to sacrifice Isaac.

It was a test of faith. Abraham could have tried to run away with Isaac, but then what would the outcome be. Abraham wouldn't have been named "The Father of Many Nations".

We should all have faith like that of Abraham. Though he loved his son dearly, he trusted in the hope of the resurrection---that if his son were to die (by any means) that he would be brought back to life at a future time. Abraham was truly blessed for his faith and obedience. God himself sacrificed the life of his beloved Son, so that all of us could have the hope of living forever. Jesus willingly offered up his life, just as Isaac did. Jesus also knew that his Father was able to resurrect him back to life, which he did.
