Not 'better;' the .30-06 is ballistically superior. A .30-30 with a 20" inch barrel may 'wield' better than a .30-06 with a 26" barrel, but even a .30-06 with a 16" barrel is a better boar gun than a .30-30. The .30-30, .44 Mag carbine and .35 Remington lever action are about the minimum calibers for the 250+ lb. boars. Head shots are always best with these beasts. I've seen 400-500 lb. boars take multiple body hits with a .30-06 (16" barrel semi-auto) and still run. The body gristle flattened the '06 rounds like nickels just under the skin. Took a head-shot to drop him. H

I have a 30-30 Marlin. Used to have a Winchester, but sold it to get a Marlin because the Marlin has side-eject. A Winchester has top-eject, and is a pain in the butt for mounting a scope. Scope has to be side-mount. With the side-eject feature on the Marlin, you can use a top mounted scope with see-through sights, so you can either use the iron sights below the scope for close-up action, or the scope for long shots. I have a 3-9 x 40 scope on mine, and am very satisfied with it. Excellent all-around rifle. Not too long. Not too heavy. Good brush gun. More than good enough for killing deer. Try any sporting goods store, or even a pawnbroker's shop. Try Amazon.com. I find all kind of stuff there.

I bought the one I have at a pawn shop. I love your choice in a deer rifle. It has the knock down power you need at 100 yards but with iron sites you can still get out and brush them an not have to worry about a scope. I think I paid $80.00 for mine 3 years ago. So far I have killed 17 deer with it.

What part of MI? Marlin lever action 30-30 are everywhere here in nothern lower penn. , I regularly see them in great condition for $170ish. Should be a good selection at any gun shop, because the 30-30 is perfect for deer in michigan.
