you poor thing - if the light wasn't working seek compensation from the council.
I walk in them in daylight!

To light the way so you don't walk into things. I ran into a parking meter once, when I was running for a bus, and looking behind me for the bus. Straight in the jaw, a big bruise for a few days.

"I remember when I was a lad" (all us old folk start off like that)!
My Dad used to belt me frequently (it was accepted then) because I was always fighting, and coming home with ripped clothes and black eyes.
As I got older I began to notice girls , at the ripe old age of 14 I was walking along and noticed this 'dream' girl on the other side of the road, I was mesmerised and watching her very closely , so closely that I walked into a lamp post, result, big black eye, and damaged pride.
I got home, Dad snapped "Fighting again?"
"No Dad, I walked into a lamp post" I replied. Guess what happened next???

I agree with you, "why do they put them big things there anyway?"
Have you ever thought that it might perhaps be to illuminate the place so that you don't walk into them?
