she asked me if she could store her stuff for a few months...and now it has been 2 years. i am in the middle of cleaning up the basement and trying to make it nice, but her stuff is in my storage space. It is not just a few things. it is like 15 boxes, 10big garbage bags, and like 20 boxes of shoes, plus a stereo, and a tv and a microwave. I told her several times now that she needs to get it out, and she has said ok, but never does anything about it . She is in Florida, and I am in Michigan. She has no friends or family that I can dump the stuff off at either. Please HELP!!

Oh yeah, she dosent have a phone and she just lives with a bunch of migrant workers and moves around all the time. I can only talk to her when she calls me, like once every 6 months!

Like the 30 day notice idea but since she is hard to reach I would advise giving the bulk (save truly personal momentos such as pictures, etc) to charity and would then save a tax receipt (with listed donations). Store that with the few items you have deemed to hold for her. She may settle down one day and appreciate this.

Call her and give her a week to get her things out, also send her a letter.
If she fail to do so sell her things or charge her for storage. You are not a storage facility and she is taking advantage of your kindness. Make sure you tell her you are selling her items also when you communicate with her. Generally you would give he 30 days but in your case you have given her more than enough time to get her things, now if she requests more time, then give her 30 days. I would not donate the items... not speaking selfishly. If you went to court, you could win money for the time you have stored her property. Sell it... and if you like send her some as a good friend... but it is up to you on that note.

You are like myself too kind and others take advantage of your kindness.

If you have been holding it for that long. I would give her one last Chane and then get rid of it! 2yrs is long enough, and i don't think you'd be responsible for anything either 2yrs is well enough time to hold the items for her with her having time to get them, even if she lives in another state, she could have saved and sent for them or sent you the $ to send things. Good Luck !

after that long it is considered abandoned. i would give her a set amount of time 30-60 days to remove the items and if she doesn't,give them to a charity or a homless shelter

send her a certified letter stating that she has 30 days to remove it or it becomes your property to do with what you choose..statue of limitations on something like that is 2 years..a reasonable amount of time for someone to retrieve their things, that is

Tell her she has a month to get her crap out of your basement, or else you are throwing it all out. That should put some fire under her tush.
