That's a generalization and isn't necessarily true. Islam as a religion doesn't require its adherents to be vegetarian. Neither does Christianity, for that matter. However, there are strict rules that they must follow about treating animals with respect. For example, the traditional method to kill an animal before eating it was to cut its throat with a sharp knife so that it dies as quickly as possible. Muslims are forbidden to eat animals that are not killed this way, including, shrimp or lobster or other animals that either die slowly or too painfully.
There is, however, the occasional Muslim who chooses to be a vegetarian for personal reasons. I have met at least one myself.

Lol, actually Muslims do respect animals.
They only hunt if it's for food, and when they do slaughter the animal, they go by certain etiquettes. They can't show the animal the device used to slaughter (so they don't get scared) and they must cut at the neck in one clean swipe so that the animal dies straight away and does not feel the pain. This also ensures that the blood is properly taken out of the body.
Muslims can eat animals so long as the animals are not pigs, or carnivores.

I am a muslim. I am also a vegetarian. Please dont confuse the acceptable with personal choice! A Muslim does not have to eat meat if they dont want. My wife is muslim and is also a vegetarian (apart from the occasional hot sausage!!!!)

I am a vegetarian and I find it sickening, how so many people can kill and eat nature's creatios without feeling bad. It is sick and wrong, and it should be made illegal!!
