I always thought it was a problem that happened to other people. I put a fraud alert on my SSN and credit report but do I actually call the cops on the person doing it?

If you know the person who did it, YES!!! Even if you don't know who did it you need to fill out a police report.

Definitely call the cops. You will need a police report in some cases to salvage your credit.

the answers to file a police report are correct. then you go to the agencies and ask for the kit to protect your credit. there are agencies to help you with this. it is a long and irritating process. you need to be patient and persistent. contact all the agencies involved and get them to remove the bad credit from the theft. file a letter with the agencies requiring a written consent from you to look at your credit including anyone who wants to offer you some. if you have any more questions you can email me at highergroundfinsvc@yahoo.com

u need to make a police report..u need to have that report to cover yourself incase the person who is stealing your identity uses your identity to committ another crime!! some police departments will let u make a report over the telephone..just call the non-emergency number not 911.

You should do, to try and stop it happening to someone else. I think you can do it online these days at the police website if you live in the uk. I did it online when I recieved a scam email.

You have to visit your local Police Station.
