I did horrible on the test before the final exam and also missed a quiz because of my illness that lasted for 3 weeks. The professor (statistics) grades extremely hard and does not give partial credit even if you do 90% of the question correctly. He gave us a review for the final and after I solved everything he said everything was right. On the final there were 2 questions that we have NEVER done before.

Anyway, @ 57% (calculating that I got 3 of the 5 questions right on the final) do prof's ever bump them up? I have never been in this situation before.

Based on what you gave, I say no. I had a professor who said that's life. You had to deal with it. I had another professor who graded very hard. I had a 40% and didn't see the point in taking the final. I found out later that 40% was passing after he eventually curved it. Needless to say, I failed. Again, just guessing, but you didn't get the D. I have also been in classes where a D was failing; a C or better was required.

I have heard of a professor bumping a grade by 1 to 2 percent . It is possible that he gave you the bump because of your recent illness (he might have taken pity on you). Although the bumping of your grade may not have been a good thing for you (with an F or low D you were not getting what he was trying to teach). If the professor has not made any demands on you (I think you know what demands I'm talking about) then I would just except the grade graciously. However if this subject is part of your major then you may want to repeat the class.

He might, but don't bet on it. Next time around, try studying harder. However, I have a professor that grades anything above an 86 as an A and so on down. The professor might curve the final or eliminate questions that NO ONE got right. Good luck.

Some do and some don't is the only answer. However being there (in class and after class) and making contact with the professer will increase your chances.
