Almost certainly British. However, many surnames from other parts of the world were anglicised on entry to north America, so it's by no means certain - it may have come from somwehere else entirely (Gold- is quite a common Jewish root, too). Depends where you can trace your family history back to.

It does look like there were Goldings in Gloucester, England, in the 19th century, implying it is a British name.

The name "Gold" within its contents is traced to Jewish and British heritage. It would determine which branch of families you trace to see which was which. Good luck.
