Moving expenses are an above the line deduction. You will put the qualified expenses on page 1 of the 1040. You do not need to be able to itemize to take the deduction.

As the previous poster mentioned, make sure you know how much you can claim for. It is much more than just carrier expenses. However, please note that you cannot claim for the cost of food on your journey.

The 'licensed tax preparer' above hasn't read a 1040 recently. Moving expenses are deducted on line 26 of the 1040 'above the line' aka before AGI is determined. They are not Schedule A itemized deductions and can be claimed even if you don't itemize.

If you moved because of a job change, you can probably deduct moving expenses, and no, you don't have to itemize to do it.

You can claim moving expenses if you moved because of a job. If you itemize, be sure that what you are claiming is larger than your standard deduction. If your standard deduction is larger, there is no point in you itemizing. I'd advise you to go to H&R Block to discuss your tax return. Bring your receipts, W-2s and anything else related to your income/tax return. If you've never itemized before I would not suggest you trying to tackle this yourself. People think they can write off ALL KINDS OF THINGS because "someone" told them they could. Get a tax professional to help you.

Yes, you can deduct moving expenses. See IRS Publication 521 for restrictions and details.

It is not true that only carrier expenses are deductible.
