The only real way to get your voice back is time. Refrain from talking for at least a full day, and rest a bit. You lose your voice when you do enough talking, singing, etc., to cause the vocal cords to swell and fail to touch properly when you attempt to speak. Taking Advil may help with the swelling some; prednisone will help, but it is not for every-day use. Warm drinks help some people, but the most important thing is to rest the vocal cords, and that means no talking!

It depends on the reason you've lost it.
If you lost it because you used it too much or in a bad way, the best way to get it back is to rest it. That means not talking.
If you lost it because you have an illness, you can probably get it back by taking medication that will relieve your symptoms.

You must rest your voice as much as possible. A hot shower may help, but if you push your voice now you may actually cause the condition to last longer. The vocal chords need rest.
Stay away from smoke, dust, and cover your face if you are going out in cold weather to prevent future problems.

Depending on if it is the typical too painful of a sore throat to talk or something more serious.
I would suggest salt and water gurgle, or you could try a over the counter spray. Also you can try just no talking and putting a warm wash rag over your throat. Lastly some warm soup can also help.

Do not even attempt to try and talk for several days, trying to talk only strains your vocal cords more and will only prolong your condition. Gargling with salt water will help sooth your throat. Follow your doctors advice.

Drink fluids, and sleep. If your throat is scratchy, and hurts, then eat some ice cream! Yum.
