If you do not have a prescription for it and got it from your friend, it is considered an illegal use of a legal drug. Therefore, you fail your pre-employment drug screen and most likely will not be offered the position. If you are asking whether or not you'd go to jail for the illegal use of that medication, no. You won't. These drug screens are not reported to the police. It's just an illegal use of the drug is all. I'm sure you've heard warnings before, but you definitely need to be careful using that drug if it is not for you. The side effects could be very dangerous. But you won't go to jail for it if that is your concern.

There are many over the counter and holistic medications that can cause a false positive on a drug test. A lot of the over the counter cold remedies can do it, as can some of the holistic drugs you can buy at GNC and the like. Also, anything that is 'caine' based, such as ora-gel, or novacaine. The obvious ones are narcotic pain relievers, such as Tylox, Percocet, Vicodin, Darvocet, Oxycontin, etc. I would also advise steering clear of any sleep aids, unless prescribed by a dr. I have a friend who was a heroin addict for about 2 years and he got clean by going on methadone maintenance. He's been clean since '99 and his counselor told him to never use any cold medications, natural holistic meds, or any tooth ache or canker sore stuff with any type of 'caine' in the ingredient (lidocaine, novacaine, etc) as they can give a false positive. Drug tests today are a lot more sensitive than ever, so a lot more things can cause false positives.

Drug screening results are usually obtained in a two step process. Gas chromatography and then gas spectroscopy. I don't know anything about Midol. Caffeine is easily distinguished from amphetamines. Pseudophed is also distinguishable from meth. Novocaine is distinguished from cocaine, as is Lanacaine, etc. Crack is NOT distinguishable from regular coca alkaloids as far as I know. Poppy seeds contain an opiate indistinguishable from heroin. Many synthetic opiates are now available. As far as I know, they are distinguishable from the naturally occurring product. Please note, there is a cut-off level below which the test machinery will not dependably detect substances, and a slightly higher cut-off which may be set as a low limit for the purposes of prosecution. For instance, ten well coated poppy seed bagels might trigger the machine, but 15 would be needed to get a result that anyone cares about. Note also that your body breaks down or otherwise uses or discards drugs over time. Detectable levels slide downward over time, and differently for different drugs. All in all, it's pretty hard to fool the machines. The "second hand pot smoke" theory? Forget it. The poppy muffin theory? Theoretically possible, but not a credible story to advance. Diet pills? Sorry. Hope this is of help. :-)

you cannot fail from having caffeine or nicotine in your body. The drug test only tests for illegal drugs in your system. I cannot speak of the other drugs you mentioned because I'm not sure what they are. The only way you could possible fail is if you around someone that smokes pot, but I think the chances of not passing because of are extremely small. You would have to breath a lot of it. To my knowledge most jobs only test for the piss test, if you fail it, then you have to take a blood test. This is what I read a couple of years ago when I took a drug test for my job. The blood test would most likely rule out if it was second hand smoke or if you took the drug test yourself.

At home drug tests are notoriously inaccurate. You can also take aleve or tylenol. I've never heard of caffeine giving a false positive. I don't know much else, I really know more about PASSING a drug test when you DID take illegal drugs.

Some prescription medications, such as stimulants taken for ADHD, can cause you to fail a drug test. It's good to report the medications that you are taking to the drug testing company. Not the company that employs you (it's none of their business), but the company that's doing the drug test.

If you eat anything containing poppy seeds you will fail a drug test. Hard to believe but true.

Do you have any idea how expensive a follicle test is? You can't ask for that.
