well to do this right, it's not going to happen fast. i was overweight in my middle school years and i managed to go from being 187 to 137 in a year. when you're young, you don't need to be eating the amount of food that a full grown adult does. Do you think you're parents would be able to take you to a doctor or a nutritionist so that you could figure out just how many Calories you should be eating? I lost all of that weight just by changing what i ate, instead of eating a pb&j and chips and cookies for lunch, i'd have a low fat yogurt, pretzels and some carrot/celery sticks. also, there are activities you can do within your home, sit ups and some leg lifts for one, you may not lose as much weight as you would if you were walking, but you can still tone some your major muscle groups. As a 12 year old, if you're really serious about losing weight, you need to talk to your parents and tell them to either not buy certain foods (ie: ice cream, chips, cookies). And they should also take you to see a professional, a doctor will tell you how much you should be eating and a healthy weight range for you. A nutirionalist will be able to give you meal plans and help you find ways to make healthy foods fun. I know you can do this, just stay strong (use some will power) and talk it over with your parents.

Hey. I was always the one my family called fat, too. "You would be so pretty if you lost weight." "You'll never get a boyfriend if you don't lose weight."
First of all, I can tell you that neither of those are true. You can be larger and beautiful. And, it won't stop GOOD guys from liking you. (I've had several guys tell me that they prefer women who they can tell eat! And, I have a wonderful fiance who actually thinks I'm getting to0 skinny...and I'm still overweight!)
Secondly, I am currently dieting very succesfully. I'm 20. I hit 219 lbs in May. So, I decided to do something about it. I am currently at 175 lbs, aiming for 150. And, I'm doing it completely healthfully! Here is what I am doing:
1. I have weight loss website (Xanga). I have a ticker to show my weight at the top, and record my intake (food) and output (exercise) every day. The girls on there are a FANTASTIC suppoert group!
2. I have cut out almost all drinks except water, and drink 8-10 glasses of water each day.
3. I switched from unhealthy foods to healthy ones. I no longer eat white bread or pasta, for instance--I switched to wheat. However, cutting out all the foods you love entirely is BAD! You will crave and then binge. So, if you really want that candy bar, eat half of it and eat the other half tomorrow.
4. I'm knock-kneed, so I can't run and exercise the way I'm "supposed to." Try playing DDR or dance exercise videos. You can do them on your own time and at your own pace.
5. www.sparkpeople.com has recipes, meal plans (that you can turn on or off), calorie counters, and support groups.
Good luck! Don't feel bad about yourself. It only makes things worse. You're better than anyone who makes fun of you.

You can exercise in an apartment. Do sit ups and leg lifts, toe touches and push ups. If you start with one, fine.
It's probably more from the type of food your family ea
ts rather than just genetics. Try to fill up on veggies, other than corn and potatoes. You can eat a whole can of green beans to fill full and not have many calories.
Absolutely no soda with sugar. Drink one or two diet ones a day. No more. Drink a minimum of 8 8oz glasses of water an 3 8oz glasses of skim milk a day. Meat no more than twice a day - each time the size of a deck of cards.
You may talk your parents into taking you to the doctor. You are severely overweight and the doctor will tell your parents that so they can help you to lose.

I read the first paragraph of the 1st chapter, I have to agree, its very confusing. Let me help: Bonnie's family would turn themselves in this exact day. Well, that's what they thought at least. Let's start from the exact beginning. It was the first day of tenth grade in Winderville High. The story begins and ends in a small town called Winderville which is located at the dead center of Missouri. Our character: Bonnie and her family. Another character in the story is: Max. Anyway, this town was small, and it's a city where practically nothing happens. Someone's birthday-well, it's like a huge parade. The town is only one main street and about forty five small streets intersecting each other. The town has a small shopping mall, a grocery store, a liquor store, some pubs and restaurants, two schools and a small library. Here's my re-write: Winderville is a little town located in the dead center of Missouri. It basically consists of a shopping mall, a grocery store, a liquor store, a few pubs and restaurants, a small library and two run-down schools. Nothing much ever goes on in Winderville. Someone’s birthday is like a parade. It was the first day of the tenth grade at Winderville high, and Bonnie was ready for anything. Ok, so it may not be perfect, it would be better with some more descriptive words but you can see already how it is easier to read. In your paragraph you jumped around a lot. The town is small, Bonnie's starting 10th grade, did I mention the town is small? Oh and the main character's name is Bonnie, well and her family too, and then theres max, but we'll get to him later. Anyways, the town is small. Did I say that yet?... you get what I mean. You need to organize the paragraphs, use more descriptive words, and don't throw in random details that you don't need like, another character is Max. We can hear about Max later when he comes into the story. Hope I helped

Your first focus has to be on your person or what people say about you will cause you to fail, love yourself first then take small steps, for me I didnt just go on a crash diet but I joined a group that shared how they lost weight and that helped me to be around people with the same problem It was Not Weight Watchers but Take Off Pounds senceibly(forgive my spelling)
and we shared with each other how we do It and I got together with a small group within a group that had Diabettes.
I cut back not all week but 3 days a week, yes this took time but I was not drowned out and I didnt feel the pressure, the group helped and weighing In helped me keep my mind on what I ate.
I lost 50 pounds In a year and a half doesnt sound like much but It was not a pressure thing and the group helped me

hm.. 12 years old? you're right when you say you're too young for weight watchers. and, i'm glad you realize that because it gets harder and harder for young women to accept themselves, especially when all we see on TV these days are extremely thin celebrities and all your friends are complaining about their weight.
it sounds like this is more than a self-image problem, though. you sound like someone that isn't concerned about what the popular thing is.. you just want to better yourself. which is good, because it shows a lot of maturity for being just 12.
what i recommend is to talk to your parents about how you're feeling. maybe they can enroll you in an excercise and diet program at your local gym. if that's not a possibility, try talking to your gym teacher. i know for a fact that they'll be happy to help. (gym teachers are always good with that kind of stuff.)
and, if they can't help, you have to just have will power. try eating healthier snacks (i know it's hard at the holidays). maybe make goals for yourself. "if i have an apple every day this week, then i can have a candy bar on saturday." try playing basketball (a great indoors sport), or going on a walk once every day or every other day. don't forget to reward yourself though.
good luck! don't forget to have fun though. that's the best part of growing up. :) hope i helped!

Yes, you do need help, and I can sympathize, because I've been in your shoes. I'm the "fat" one in my family, too, and the rest are all slim. You need to talk to a doctor, and find out what your options are. It's totally frustrating to try to lose that much weight no matter what your age. If you can't get your parents to take you to a doctor, go to an ER and tell them why you're there. I think it's really good that you are taking steps to work on this - just asking this question is the first step; now it's time to take the next one. Good luck!!!!

You are a smart girl. You know you are not at a healthy weight.Ignore stupid people who call names. You can lose weight but they will always be stupid.
What you need to do is keep a log of everything you eat.Lets start with a plan of consuming 2500 calories a day.And no snacking at all after 7pm.Only sugarfree iced teas.Look at the labels on everything you eat thats is packaged. If there is not at least 6 grams of fiber in it,choose something else.Only whole wheat breads.Get a radio, put on some sneakers and walk for 45 minutes everyday.Losing weight requires change in your habits. You can do it if you stick with the program.

Has your parent ever taken you in to see if you have a thyroid problem? When I was 12 and going through puberty I was heavy, and when I started to mature more it all leveled out! I think it is all about portion control, you can eat the junk food, but just have to limit how much at a time. Good luck, and don't let the other people stop you from making the changes you want for yourself, ignore all of them and keep your head up.

Without knowing what your excercise and eating habits are like it's hard to offer advise. Be more consious about what you eat - you will really have to make an effort and stick with it or it will never happen. Excercise is very, very important as well. What do you do for physical activity? Is there a park nearby that you can walk/rollerblade/jog in? Is there a pool nearby that you can use (swimming is fun and great excercise). Now is the time for you to get healthy - you will enjoy your future years much more.
