Commandment #4:
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
The statue itself is a contradiction by it's very nature.

Woops, yes, i seem to have misnumbered the commandment... disregard the number and just read the text, it is the one about graven images i am trying to illustrate.

READ IT IN CONTEXT
Deu 5:7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
Deu 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Deu 5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

Well first of all the commandment # 4 is Remember the sabbathe day to keep it holy. The commandment you mention is commandment #3 it just happens to be quite a long commandment. Other than that, I had never thought about it like that but you are right, erecting a statue of something that says thou shalt NOT make unto thee any graven image....is a contradiction

That is a commandment against creating graven images for the pupose of worshipping it as a god. This has nothing to do with artwork or sculptures.

When you are Saved... you no longer live by the ten commandments nor are you judged by them. God sent Jesus to be born and die for all of our sins so that if we choose him and are Saved that we will have ever lasting life.... We will not be held to the ten commandments, yet we are still responsible for our own choices.

you are wrong commandment#4 is--
THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
"Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
"But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor the stranger that is within thy gates:
"For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day:
wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it."

Very true, But do not try and confuse Christians with the facts.
They rarely look at their own rules let alone obey them!

What that means is that Humans (us) should not try to be like anyother 'god'. But, God himself. We should try to be more powerful than God either. Just worship him and do as he comands, and you're on your way to Heaven! God Bless!
