I am looking for some alternative side dishes for christmas dinner, BUT...the more "out of stove" recipes the better since we will also be cooking a ham!! And, If i could prepare anything a day ahead, the better!!

We usually have a potato (mashed potatos), Veggie (green bean casserole), and some sweet potatos (mashed too)...as you can see, it is pretty plain and we have almost the same thing on thanksgiving.

Also...nothing too fancy, we have some picky eaters!!

Any ideas within those areas??

here is one you probably haven't heard of
Crock Pot Dressing

5 or 6 chicken breasts
1 stick of margarine, melted
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can of cream of celery soup
2 1/2 cups self rising corn meal
1/2 cup self rising flour
3/4 cup milk
5 to 6 eggs
1 1/2 to 2 cups onion chopped
2 1/2 tbs. oil
sage, salt, and black pepper to taste

For the breading mix together meal, flour, eggs, milk, oil and water. Cook in two large skillets until done. Boil the chicken and debone, reserving broth in large pan. Add soups and cook with chopped onion until soup is thin. Add crumbled bread and chicken and pour into crock pot. Cook for 6 hours on low.

It is better if you make it the day before and let set overnight. it makes the mixture taste better because it is absorbing all the flavors before you put in crock pot to cook. Hope you enjoy I have many more Recipes if you need more.

We all love finger foods! This seems to go over really well at our familys gatherings. Corned beef pickle rolls.
Thinly sliced corned beef, whipped cream cheese and baby dill pickles. Spread your whipped cream cheese over a slice of corned beef and wrap a pickle up in it. Chill for an hour and then slice into bite sized pieces. Serve on a decorative tray. They are actually quite festive looking as well. Have a happy and safe holiday!

My mom makes a beets and thyme dish which is very good...sorry I don't know the recipe. Why not grill some veggies on the BBQ? We have done that some years, and it's quite nice. Asparagus, carrots, green beans, zucchini...yum!

-cook sour apples in very little water, until mashed, add butter, salt, nutmeg to taste.
-a nice green mixed salat
maybe you should oven roast or bake the potatoes and mash only th esweet ones.
sweet/cream corn would match aw well

I make this and it seems to be a crowd pleaser...
Pep salad

Half package of pepperoni I like to cook them till crisp.. so the pep doesn't stick together..

One box of any noodle you like.. I like the bow ties.. Make sure to rinse and cool noodles..

Italian dressing add till you like the taste.. about a half cup or more if you like..

Black olives or calamata. One can or half cup

feta cheese as much as is desired.. Or you can add sheese cubes of whatever cheese you like or mix it up

You can add cherry tomatoes or any other veggie you like

This is very simple and can add any sort of stuff you like to it and you can make it ahead of time.. I know it seems like a non recipe.. but it works and you can do anything you want to it.. very simple yet seems to be very loved by all who eat it..
