At 12 weeks old, depending on how much time and training you have put into it,it is possible that your pup may know it is supposed to go outside.Your still going to have accidents though, because at that age a pups bladder is very small, and can't hold it for extended periods of time.Excitement may also make it sometimes forget. While it may have the general idea at that age,you still need alot of close supervision and training reminders,to get to the point you want to be at.

Again this depends on the breed and size of the dog but all my dogs (and I have had many) both big and small, have been house trained within three to four months.
Puppies MUST be taken outside at regular intervals, at least once an hour ~~ they soon get the idea. Try taking them to the same place as where they went before (that is, after you have picked up the previous mess). They will smell the scent and it will encourage them to go again.
Never ever loose your "fluff". If the puppy makes a mistake inside. Patience works wonders, Just show him/her what she/he has done and take her/him outside. Even if she doesn't go,.......again, she will soon undertand.
Smacking serves no solution to housetraining and will only make the puppy neurotic and above all, scared of you.
If you are able to leave your back door open during the day, so much the better. The toy poodle I have at the moment, needed no training by me, she did it all herself ~~ with the back door open.............but then I did live in Africa, where doors are seldom left shut.

YES...Ive had dogs housebroken by the time they were 5 weeks old. It depends on your consistency with the dog and the breed. Some are a little harder to train, while others are easier. But yes you can...dont ever give up!!

Yes- I got my chocolate lab when he was 8 weeks old and he was housetrained by the time he was 12 weeks. If using newspaper to train with just move it more towards the door every day. When you get to the door put a piece out side and then remove after a couple of days. Remember to praise your dog when it goes outside and it shouldn't take long.

Not really no, 12 weeks is a bit young to expect a puppy to be completely clean in the house, although there are exceptions to the rule, me and my husband were asked once to train a Doberman for someone, we collected the pup at 8 weeks old and in the 8 months we had him that pup didn't wee or poo in my house, not once! I used to come downstairs in the morning hoping to find a mess on the floor! We have never trained a dog that was so intelligent!! it was a bit spooky!!
I have an 8 month old GSD and she has been completely clean now for 3 months, she is really good and whines at the back door if it is closed.

Yes and no!
They should know by this age where the toilet area is and generally make an effort to use that area only.
However, you can't expect a 12 week old pup to be able to hold their wees and poos for long. So, there will be accidents when the pup gets caught short, or when you aren't around to let it out in time.

If you are lucky enough to live somewhere warm and you have a safe garden so you can leave the back door open at ALL times, and you have another dog for him to copy you may be lucky. Although expect accidents in times of excitement, worry etc. Its good to have a solid floor, tiles or wood then accidents arent such a worry.
Im not sure about this "crate" that is spoken about alot, I dont think its nice for a dog to be confined like this for long periods Im all for a dog having its own space that it can go to when it wants to or when you tell it to, but caging them dosnt seem right to me.

The answer is quite definitely YES....
but the later you start the harder it is. .. I have had 8 dogs/bitches most are clean around 12 to 16 weeks. 2 or 3 managed it at 12 weeks..
We had a a litter lo eight Flatcoated retriever Puppies and they all showed signs of 'trying to be what we call house clwean at the age of 3 to 4 weeks.. i.e. dogs are NATURSLLY clean. ....The floor of whelping box was covered with "Vet bed" and we would put newspaper over ½ the area,.... the pups "ALL" attempted to use the newspaper. When they left (sob! sob!) between 7 and 9 weeks..the new owners reported that all bar one were clean by around 10 weeks and one was asking to at the door on the 2nd day.. They WANT to be clean, we don't need to teach them its more like arranging circumstances to ALLOW them to ba clean....

I would say thats a problem if their not trained by that age. I'd start training them at six to eight weeks and its like having a baby, take them out after they eat, sleep, or if they are smelling around in circles, and take them outside to a place where you want them to routinely go, if you have the area and open space. after they go rewards are always good and plenty of praise, then they know their doing the right thing and will be happy to have pleased you. It really don't take long to train them they get in the routine quickly, just be consistant.
