It is 26 degrees F but with the wind chill it feels more like 17 degrees F. Is that to cold to be out with a 5, 4, and 2 1/2 year old? The kids want to go to story hour at the local book store. Then to do train paintings at the local toy store. We do not have the car at this time so driving is not an option.

Its about 25/30 mintues away. Up a big hill. Needless to say it is Now after 1 PM and we did NOT. go. Not because of the weather but because all 3 kids were acting terrible. i told them that if they didn't start behaving then we would NOT go. needless to say they did NOT stop. So they are all taking a nap instead of going. When they get up if they are in a better mood then we will go sledding in the back yard or something else that is fun.

I will not take cranky children anywheres. It would have been very disruptive to others.

When I took my 1 yr old to the pediatrician in December and he asked my if I took her outside for walks,I thought he was crazy, but he said that cold air is good for kids as long as they are dressed warmly. He also said it was important not to over dress a child in cold weather, because if they sweat in cold weather they are more likely to get sick.

Good gracious! 26 degrees is hardly cold enough to wear a heavy coat! Certainly you would NOT want them to stand around outside for a long time and get chilled, but with a reasonable winter coat, hat and gloves, they will be plenty warm enough.
It also depends upon how far away the library is located. Most of the body's heat loss is through the head, so wearing a warm cap is a must. Have fun at the library!

Cold weather does not harm children. When we were kids (back in the dark ages of the 70's) our parents kicked our butts outside everyday, no matter how cold.

And what do you know, we all survived.

Fresh air and exercise is good for children. You can't get sick from the cold, more likely from others cold germs on everything you touch.

Your kids will love it! My dd is 18mos and I can't keep her inside, she loves the outdoors.

If it isnt a far walk and they are dressed in layers and a coat and hat and mittens than all should be fine... Is it possible to take some public transportation? Really though, as long as they are bundled up well it should be okay. And its great you are taking them to some fun and educational things..

If it's not too far to walk, then it should be fine.

Dress them in layers. Protect little fingers and little noses. 26 degrees F is not cold for winter weather.

If you keep them in the house all the time, they're likely to be sickly. Healthy to get out and walk.

definately not!! it's good to get some fresh air like that. especially if you're walking and moving, it won't feel so cold. put an extra t-shirt on and you'll be fine!! you can't stop living your life just b/c it's cold. have fun!!

I wouldn't unless you have them bundle up tightly.
