Only the Christians believe that, other religions feel mistakes are part of the learning process of life, and that only deliberate evil or malicious actions come back to haunt you through karma
Keep in mind too that the concept of Hell was stolen from a pagan belief system ( Norse) from a goddess named Hel, also Hella, who gaurded the underworld. The ideas of a devil and hell did't enter into the Bible until around 800 A.D I believe. So some of these concepts could have been made by man to control the masses in centureis past and have been altered for today's society.

If you believe in free will, then you do not believe that God exacts punishment on people, because that would be an indirect conflict with our free will.
I personally believe that God allows people to make mistakes. Sometimes the rules of the universe set up from the beginning of time cause us to pay for our mistakes. That's not God desiring us to be punished. God probably watches and wishes that we would make better choices, but God also limits God's influence so as to leave us with our own free will.

God does NOT punish us when we do things He does not approve, instead, it is a way of learning from our mistakes. It is really a blessing when we realize we did something wrong and felt sorry for it. It makes us stronger to face life and for God to let us do things and exercise our freewill, we should be thankful.

it highly depends on your interpretation of free will. God or not God. how about the society? humans punish and do not forgive at all. at least we can ask for forgiveness from god after committing a crime. Humans do not forgive and they punish anyways. you need some set of rules to live by and around. Humans created many rules, from not stealing, to not speeding, to paying a lot of money to purchase a house to not cheating , to hating, and so on... i do not think that god said anything about those things. i believe this is Humans. The right question would be, do you really think that a criminal would not commit a crime because he is afraid of God? or because he is afraid of any laws? I think if he does not , it is because he is scared of the police and the court, not God. on the contrary, people kill in the name of god and murder in the name of god all the time just last year a lady killed all 3 of her kids because she claims god told her to do that. Criminals do not think like us.

There are two masters in this world, God and the devil. One is good the other is bad. If we choose the good we are safe, we are loved, we are treated right and on the other hand we do right as well. If we choose the bad we are not safe, we are not loved, we are not treated right, and we will not do right but God says all souls are his. So your soul and my soul want to be with God, it is our flesh that rebels against him. He created us to serve him but he does not want to make us serve him. He wants us to prove our love for him by choosing him over sin and the devil. Those that choose the devil will go to hell because that was their choice. Those that choose God will go to heaven if they continue to obey and live according to his word (the bible). Sin is what separates us from God. He let us know in I John 3:8 He that commiteth sin is of the devil. We cannot be of God and of the devil at the same time (that is confusion). Nature automatically obeys God, birds, fish, dogs, cats, and etc. he gave us humans a free will, he couldn't have everybody freely doing everything he said or he wouldn't know if we love him or not. With evil present we are able to let him know whether we want to be with him or the devil.

Does God punish or is it a consequence of the natural law of cause and effect? When you use your free will to 'cause' then there is an 'effect'. Personal responsibility allows that you take charge of the circumstance.

(Hebrews 10:29-to-31) Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
(Heb 10:30) For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
(Heb 10:31) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Thanks, RR

God isn't merciless and sadistic, He made Hell for devil and his followers, not human beings yet with the options we make we finally end up going there besides. that is loose will He did not opt for us to be like robots and only bypass alongside mindlessly. He made a fashion to Heaven even as there replaced into no way plausible for us to be with Him . God hates sin and could not enable it into Heaven( we already ruined the backyard of Eden and are not allowed there) God despatched his in elementary words Son to die for us, so as that we does not ought to spend an eternity in Hell. God isn't the guy who sends us to Hell We deliver ourselves there with techniques from not choosing to be with Him certain God is established with our hearts and what we decide yet he's continuously giving us more advantageous opportunities to regulate our minds and pay interest to him.

God is not punishing you..you are reaping the natural consequences of your actions.
EXAMPLE: Jump off a building.. The natural law of gravity means you are going to fall, not fly.

How do you know He gives us freewill? Freewill is a common misconception within the church. The Bible is very clear that everything is predestined.
"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
Romans 8:29-31
"What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. IT DOES NOT, THEREFORE, DEPEND ON MAN'S DESIRE OR EFFORT, BUT ON GOD'S MERCY. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
Romans 9:14-18
