One thing is their different education and understanding of masculinity.
The other is that a structure of mouth is slightly different in men and women: Adam's apple, etc. Anatomists say that it is easier for women and children to swallow excess of secretion accumulated in the region of throat (without thinking about that) in comparison to men, so they can only to spit. But it is possible to do this politely, in proper places or to use a handkerchief.

Spitting seems to be the new "trend" for teenagers now-a-days ... doesn't it? I've noticed girls are even starting to spit. What a unsanitary and gross habit.
My sons are 17 and 18 ... I went uptown with them one day, and my younger son spat on the ground, as he got out of the van. I asked him if he had a "saliva problem", he looked at me in surprise ... and replied "No". I said "Good, keep it in your mouth then". He hasn't done that again (at least, not in front of me ... hopefully he quit completely).
I doubt that it's anything of a medical nature. Kids today, just seem to think it's "cool". How one could think such a thing is beyond me .... :(

There could be many reasons why a person (Ive seen women do it to) would do this in public.
1.) to be cool
2.) a bad habit
3.) they might chew tobacco
4.) to get something out of there mouth

Because their parents did not teach them that spitting is a disgusting habit. They probably think their "cool".

I used to spit all the time when I smoked. My friends who smoked spit too.

I don't know. Rude and stupid, I suppose. I am a boy but I've never done that, I think it's very unhygienic.
