Erythropoesis (sp?) = red blood cell production. Iron is an essential element in the production of healthy red blood cells. People who are iron deficient generally have red blood cells that are smaller and more pale than normal. Iron is generally really easy to replete - people can take oral supplements. In severe iron deficiency cases, iron can be given through a vein.

Type your phrase "iron deficient erythropoiesis" into Google. There you can get a good clarification.
It would seem to be a serious form of anemia, where the bone marrow is not making red blood cells. But there is much more to read.

I would get a serious answer, but erythropoietin is a substance your kidneys send to your bone marrow that tells it to make more red blood cells. The bone marrow then uses the iron to help make them. So if your deficient in both erythropoietin and iron it seems to be a serious condition that you need to follow up with your doctor.
