When you drink plenty of water, your body loses weight two ways.
1. Believe it or not, when you do not drink water, your body retains water, thinking that water is a precious commodity and " I have to save every drop of it for emergency". So you gain about 2-5 lbs just on this retained water. When you drink plenty of water, body thinks that "I am getting plenty of water, I do not have to retain as much water". So you could lose 2-4 lbs (in water).
If you are heavy, you do not lose fat this way.
2. If you drink a glass of water before each meal, your stomach will be partially filled with water and you eat less. This may lead to some weight lose in about 2-3 months.
Otherwise water has no "medicinal qualities" to make you lose weight

Some people don't drink enough water when they diet, thinking they'll lose weight. But just the opposite happens. If you don't drink enough water every day, your body may be storing water and fat that you don't need.
You need water for your body to burn fat. Without water, your kidneys can not do their job properly and your liver must pitch in to help. While it's helping the kidneys, your liver can't burn as much fat, so some of the fat that would normally be used as fuel gets stored in your body instead. Drinking more water lets the liver get back to its own job of turning fat into fuel.
Your body needs water-it's sixty percent water. But if you don't drink enough, your body thinks it's in danger and tries to hold onto all the water it can get. The water is stored between the cells and shows up as extra weight. Your feet, legs and hands may even swell up. When your body gets enough water, the stored water is released.
The more water you drink, the less you'll eat. Water is nature's own appetite suppressant. A glass of water before eating will help you feel full and eat less. You'll also get rid of extra salt by drinking water (salt can also cause the body to hold onto water).
Drink at least 8, eight-ounce glasses of water every day. If you're overweight, drink an additional glass for every Twenty-five pounds of excess weight. Cold or cool water is best. It's absorbed much faster and cold water may burn more calories. And don't drink cola, Mountain Dew or anything with caffeine in it. Caffeine is a diuretic and will cause you to lose water.

It fills you up so that you are less likely to eat as much food.Does not add calories either
Keeps you hydrated too.
Start off with 8 -10 8 oz glasses a day and for every 10# over weight add another glass.
Drink 2 -3 glasses before mealtime and snacks

Water is good because it helps to flush out the bad stuff in your body. Its also good becuase sometimes when you're hungry, you're really just thirsty.
I dont drink soda or juice--not for any other reason than the fact that i dont like the taste. the only thing I drink is water.
I also need to loose weight. About two weeks ago I began adding 2 extra 8oz glasses of water to my normal daily consumption. I drink these 8oz when I feel like snacking. Sometimes adding a bit of lemmon helps (lets face it, water gets boring).

It will fill you up faster I would recommend at least a gallon of water a day. Considering 80% of your body is made of water.

yes, it "flushes" out toxins in your body, helps you feel full so you eat less. you might see some water retention if you aren't use to drinking a lot but it keeps you healthy.
